Yep it’s all subjective, I don’t think they got going until 1985 and for me Songs of Faith and Devotion was their best album. Maybe have a listen to this, Ultra and Playing the Angel, definitely not a tad thin musically mate.
 
Gimme Shelter, partly born out of the intra-band tension as Richards feared that Jagger and Pallenberg were taking things a bit further than method acting on the set of Performance.

We had Songs on the record review thread and I actually really dislike it. It was their “grunge” move and they lost all their spark and energy with it trying to be something they’re not. Suffice to say my view was not a widely-held one!

Fair enough mate, the easiest thing would’ve been to make Violator 2 and nobody would‘ve blamed them for it.
 
I don't really like the Stones. But I thought I'd better listen through before voting - and what a tune! Perhaps it was the video - just throwing up the words without Jagger poncing about (OK it's Jagger I don't like) and so I was thinking maybe it can have my vote - but then on comes Heroes - great tune, that rhythm just churning away, lyrics that give hope and offer self-belief - so many memories and it's Bowie one of the great musicians of any generation - so I went there - (for now) :-)
 
Gimme Shelter won my favourite 60s song poll, but its far from my favourite Stones track. I'm gonna say Heroes on this vote. Again, nowhere near my favourite Bowie track, but I prefer it to GS.
