The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

So many iconic gems to pick from Lana Del Rey's discography and we get a poor choice of song to vote for against the Boss with his smash hit from a soundtrack.

Banger's like Video Games, Summertime Sadness, anything from Ultraviolence (2014) and NFR! (2019) would have been a better representation of Lizzy Grant's work.

I wonder if there are going to be any surprises in the non nominated singers or bands.
Surely there must be a few not nominated.
Soul struggling so far.

I think you are right that some big beasts will be missing. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Otis Redding or The Four Tops fail to make an appearance. I wish I'd put OR on my list which was tbh a bit random. We are light on a few genres so far but early days hopefully.

It's also been interesting to see the mix of people choosing big hits vs others picking relatively obscure or lesser known songs.

How many true big hits have there actually been so far? I would say not many

Fair question and depends on what we mean by big hits, I would say about a quarter to a third of the songs nominated have been big hits or very well known songs. But I'd forgotten that by definition a minimum of 20% will be well fairly known hits because of the the first pick criteria, so yes once you take those out it is heavily slanted to the lesser known so far.

Tough choice this one. Lana Del Ray is good isn't she? Why does she feel like a guilty pleasure? It's a good Bruce song too. Need to take a bit longer to ponder...
