The British Monarchy

Mishandled how? To whose standards?

People were repeatedly asked to wait. They were given an Easter timeframe for updates. They refused to wait and went nuts with theories. And 'calls' for answers.

The only mishandling was the media latching onto the speculation for clicks, and the sheer entitlement of some parts of the public.

Anyway, that at this point seems hardly relevant. Other than, if people STILL look to make a fucking meal of it to be fucking controversial, mere hours after that announcement.

In which case those individuals should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

We didn't NEED to know about this lady's (newly diagnosed ) illness, but, wankers in the media (social and traditional) have been relentless.

When she first fell ill, we were told it was for "abdominal surgery". That should have been enough. BUT NO. The baying mob MUST be told what exactly it was. Well, it's got nothing to do with you.

Cue the conspiracy theorists, ever since. Even talk of affairs and separation.....wankers.

Now today's sad news. More wankers will immediately be speculating on the type of cancer, after all, they MUST be informed.

Just let the lady recover, and leave her family to adapt. But they won't be allowed to.

KEEP YOUR NOSES OUT.

Get well soon, Kate.

Awful news and I hope she recovers soon.

I hope the absolute fuckwits and ghouls who hounded the poor girl on social media, cracked jokes and shared conspiracy theories are proud of themselves.

She deserves privacy and you’ve got to feel for Will and the kids too, having a parent and a spouse sick with this awful disease at the same time doesn’t bear thinking about.

There are people - particularly in the media - who think that paying taxes is in fact a subscription fee to scrutinise the Royals private lives and medical records

Happy to revisit this if needed (won't really be), but now is just not the time. The suggestion you read into really isn't as strong as you took it to be, but otherwise I stand by what I said, and similarly have done on occasion through this. But lets disagree when the dust settles.
Fair enough.

One of my fundamental beliefs is that it is always the time to hold people to account, otherwise those that should be held to account will just keep creating crisis situations to prevent the dust from ever settling (I don't mean you when I say that, I mean those that made Kate's situation even worse than it already was). Hence why I answered Fog's question. And everything about this situation frustrates me personally, including the behaviour of the gutter press, the conspiracy theorists, and the wholly incompetent advisers to the RF. So, for me, this unfortunate announcement just strengthens the case for a desperately needed reckoning for nearly everyone involved in the entire horrible affair, if just to prevent it from happening again.

Horrible news. I hope she makes a full recovery.

It does kind of feel like social media has forced her to release a statement. It must be hard trying to keep something like that private.

Press are wankers.

Hope she has a speedy recovery and wish her all the best.

How long until Harry and Meghan are blamed for another royal tragedy?

Absolute **** of a disease. I get why the family would want to protect the kids first. Despite my views on William it must be a double kick in the nuts of both your wife and father being screwed over by it.

That’s exactly it - no one needed to know more than what was initially disclosed, but the self-important wankers couldn’t just leave it at that, even though it was obvious she’d undergone a major operation and wanted privacy on the matter, mostly for her children’s sake.

A complete lack of respect and basic decency.

I agree with much of what you have both said. But it doesn't contradict the fact that it was all mishandled. Whether/when the public should be told is separate from how things were handled once the media and the public began down the road they went. And I am not sure any reasonable observer would say it was handled well, to put it nicely.

The discussion of whether there should be an expectation of disclosure of personal health events from the future Queen Consort (very much up for debate, and I think both sides have valid points) and the discussion of how the media and public reaction to her absence from duties and public presence was managed by the RF/RH have overlap, but they are not the same.

Ultimately, any rightminded person, royalist or not, wishes a full and speedy recovery for her. But it is also just as reasonable to want those that made the situation far more difficult for her, William, and their children to be held to account. That includes the gutter press, the contemptable conspiracy theorists, and the utterly incompetent advisers that oversaw the shambolic handling of the media and public reaction.

Whilst I personally thought some additional information should have been released earlier, to avoid the situation that then emerged with social media/gutter press, I can safely say I was wrong and they have been spot on with how they have handled it.

Considering the news you can see why they wanted time. It's a huge thing for a family to process and on top of that our King is also undergoing treatment for cancer and from a PR perspective they were probably quite keen not to throw this news out at the same time for fear the press would claim Kate was trying to steal limelight or to avoid a public meltdown about two royals having cancer.

So in hindsight they've done the right thing and it was wrong to question them at all without the facts. I wish her all the best, and hope she recovers. An immensely stressful time for William in particular.
