The Calais problem (merged)

Fucking hell!
How many of the people who land in Italy get to the Channel Tunnel?
Only a fraction

I went to Lesbos Greece on holiday a few weeks ago and there are thousands of refugees on that island that have got there by rubber dingy from Turkey

Those Turkish boat tours have gone downhill, used to be a pirate ship with ouzo and a ham roll thrown in, all for 5 Lira

Well the French don't want them so they're not going to stop them from entering the UK
Why should the French be patrolling the UK borders?

Why have you not posted that Turkey, Greece, Germany, Serbia, Macedonia, Austria, Croatia etc, etc are being arseholes as well for allowing them to travel through their countries

As I posted in the other thread, it's a whole European issue
You're right, the French aren't very good at patrolling borders. How did I forget?

Should put obstacles along he tunnel and make it in to a TV show. The money made from the show would pay for heir benefits

Unfortunately the Schengen Agreement has just turned Europes borders into chocolate fireguards

These people need stopping before they get into Europe

Either by disuasion or enforced 'turn around' wherever they make land or before

But ultimately the message needs to be got across that "there's nothing here for you" and thus quell the demand which the traffickers are taking advantage of

Flee persecution... Not a problem with that but persecution stops when they get out of the country they're in......not just in Britain

Last night on BBC news, they interviewed a Syrian in Calais. The guy claimed to be a dentist and he'd made his way over Europe to the tunnel
He said he was fleeing persecution and had left his wife and baby back in Syria to make the journey
Well it struck me that this meant 1 of 3 things
1- He's a callous bastard looking after himself and leaving his family in mortal danger
2- There is no persecution
3- He's a lying ****

I don't understand why we are even entertaining the prospect of considering asylum.

If these people were desperate asylum seekers they would seek asylum at the first point possible when they get to Europe. The fact they are prepared to forego this means they are not desperate, therefore we should deport them immediately back to their country of origin. It has to be that simple!

Tough maybe but necessary.

That's the type of point I was making in a nicer way.

There is no need for them to end up here and nobody is putting the big question out there as to why they want to be here due to our PC world.

I agree with deportation.

What bugs me though to add to it is that we allow free movement of EU member citizens. Why not let everyone apply for a visa. English, Irish, Polish, Nigerian. Prove you are not a convict, do some basic aptitude test, provide proof of employment and education, etc. basically the very same thing I had to do to work in the U.S. Is the fear of paperwork worth the chaos that's arisen over the past 10 years?
