The calm before the storm

It dawned on me that that was our last home weekend game of the season, and we only have 1 home game left. Suddenly a quite remarkable season is coming to a conclusion.

It seems silly to write a verdict or summary before the final curtain has gone down on the grand finale but I feel that the title hangs in the balance this week. Victory is far from assured, but one game should not define a season so I wanted to place on record, before all the hysteria and hype begins that this indeed has been an amazing season and that whatever happens next I will be extraordinarily proud of Manchester City.

We may not end us as Champions but we have accrued 186 points plus in two seasons. We have gone close to a quadruple on the back of a 100 points season. They said last season that you could not consider yourselves a great side unless you do it back to back, well we have done it again. We don't yet know quite what we have done but we have been phenomenally good.

I think we should recognise this before next week unwinds because the football media can not be trusted to act responsibly. They will give their verdicts and I do not trust them to be reasonable so before they go into warp drive, can we just make it clear that come what may City have been magnificent this season and this side is already legendary.

Well said mate, I know I'm lucky as fuck to be witnessing this and I'm personally going to enjoy every minute of it, it won't last but the memories will!
We have to accept the possibility that it may not end how we want, so before the conclusion draws I wanted City fans just to make clear that we are immensely proud of our side and our coach. The media could let loose the poison arrows this week, so lets make it clear that whatever the result, we could not be prouder of this great side.

Yep, whatever happens from here on in I think we've played some great football again, Pep has taken us to this next level. You can't legislate for what liverpool have done this season, they've been equally as good albeit with a lot more luck thrown in. Would be a sickener if we didn't win the league with 90+ points but so what, we go again next season with hopefully a few new faces to make us even stronger. Great season.

Good post, but fair assessments don't sell newspapers.
Far easier to call City "chokers" if we lose to United, or berate Guardiola's supposed poor CL record when he's actually won the competition as many times as Ferguson.

They’ve loved pointing out that Guadiola has been a failure in Europe this week. If we end up on the wrong side of losing the league they will take great delight in highlighting that too. Despite the fact that whoever finishes second will have amassed 90 odd points.

Drink it in and take stock of an amazing season, the next few weeks are going to be interesting.

Precisely. The climax of the season is upon us, and a tsunami may head our way but if it does, get the surf-boards out and ride it. This has been a great season. Were going to Wembley 4 times and will likely have over 90 points plus on the back of 100.

Don't let them set the agenda. This is a great side whatever happens next.

Even back to back season Champions will be "expected", we'll be failures for not winning the CL - script is already out.

Superb rational post!! We have become one of the best sides in the world & wonderful to watch.
I wish I could have read this on Weds morning - it would have considerably eased my depression at being robbed later that night!!!

Great post Marv. We are extremely fortunate to be supporting a team that plays like this.

Well said, Marvin. This is truly one of the great teams in the history of football in this country, and looking at the average age of yesterday’s starting eleven, plus supporting cast from the bench, got plenty more in the tank over the next half decade, at least.

Absolutely successful season whatever happens. Sometimes when you dine at the top table you experience the odd hammer blow like Wed. You only have to look at the rags over their successful period. They had many a bad day in big games but carried on and won more and that’s what will happen to us.

I still think we will win 3 trophies this season.

Whatever happens this season we have been magnificent, an honour and privilege to watch, BUT we must not let the scouse victims take the title, the summer would be unbearable!
