The calm before the storm

We need to win the league.
Of course we do, but this thread points out something very important. We have a great team, need I say the “the greatest football team the world has ever seen...”. Whatever happens next we should feel great pride in this creation and look back in the years to come when we are old and grey (or older and greyer in my case!) with fondness and happiness.

Brilliant. Can't believe I have lived to see us play football like this. 70 now and had to put up with the dark days. Now we are playing the best football I have ever seen and not getting any credit for it from the media BUT we know it and so does anyone else who sees us play.

I was told Merson, you know that footballing genius has said if City only win the 2 domestic cups Pep and City would have failed this season.

We enter 4 competitions and win 2 yet it would be failure, that to me beggars belief.

This is also part of the reason the cup competitions in thos country are devalued now

Good post, but fair assessments don't sell newspapers.
Far easier to call City "chokers" if we lose to United, or berate Guardiola's supposed poor CL record when he's actually won the competition as many times as Ferguson.
He's won as many times pisscan in half as many attempts.
We are 5 games away from doing something that's never been achieved,a domestic treble, and but for a couple of controversial decisions we might still have been going for the lot.
We might never see the football we're currently seeing again once Pep leaves so fuck everybody that attempts to down play it.

whatever happens I am proud of the team and the club, we've battled back from near 10 points behind, CL quarters again was unlucky to City, we've set records this year and last, and even if we do lose the title to Liverpool I will be brimming with excitment at how Pep is going to not run away from this, he;s going to want to fight Klopp next season and the one after, he's embroiled in City now :)

Yep great football and 'I've enjoyed it, but if I'm being honest it won't be the same if Liverpool pip us to the title.

Come what may title wise we are on course for the 3rd highest point total in premier league history.
We have won a cup, potentially will win another and gaurenteed at least 2nd place in the tightest run title race for a decade.

Even if we fall short in the league we will have had a good season to be proud of

To put the title race in perspective without Liverpool having the best season in their history we would gave romped to another title by 16+ points. That's how good we have been. This is with Liverpool being aided by some horrendous mistakes by other teams players and officials decisions. The cynic in me would say a bigger power was at force in some of those events but who knows?

We all know them. Add some very iffy goalkeeping howlers into the mix too, the one position that can influence a game for betting syndicates or for old mates and there you have it.

I know for a fact my rag brother was hurt by losing that title in 1992 to Leeds, but it didn’t change the fact they had a good team and would go on to achieve a golden period. IF we lose the title to the dippers it would hurt, but in the overall schemes of thing it is a mere battle in a war.

A war that's starts again every August.

We will win the league next season no matter what.

Very good opening post, whoever wins the league now,the 2nd place team will have had a fantastic season.
Certainly adds to the global brand appeal having such a close contest, which PL chiefs will love.

It's nice to have a title race this season.
If Man City win, they will have done something no other Prem team has done before by winning the Prem in consecutive seasons.
If we win, it will be our first ever Prem title, competing against arguably the greatest Premier League side ever seen.
Whoever comes second, although will not have a trophy to show for it, will have had a fantastic season.

Don't think that's right mate. I'm sure 'nited did it about a decade ago. And maybe it was done another time?
