The Chants Against Foden's Mum

The way to answer these things is to peform on the pitch. Pep shouldn’t have mentioned it imo. Think that will make it worse.
As someone else has said, he was asked about it and was in a no win situation. Say nothing and he's not defending his player, respond and he shouldn't have said anything.

Has been going on for years. Recall Stanley "wheres your wife" Bolwes getting loads of this, but seemed more in humour than the modern chants which carry An edge of nastiness. Or a case of youthful naivety? From me
We gave plenty of grief to Paddy Kenney when he was goalie at Sheffield United about his wife.
And who can forget the charming little dirty about the affair between Tommy Doc and Mary Brown.
" He shot,he cum,all over Mary's bum, Tommy Doc, Tommy Doc" !!!

And I thought all the song was about at the time was Knees up Mrs Brown.

But is "Chelsea Rent Boy" actually homophobic? Its a prostitution joke about the Chelsea player, not the sexual orientation itself. People can go all day arguing the semantics of chants which becomes another problem. The Premier League's stance looks to be shaky.

You either ban all defamatory chants or don't. Pick and chosing certain chants using flimsy legislation as seen in "Chelsea Rent Boy" which can be argued that it does not attack a protected characteristic is where the problem arises.
I always thought the rent boy chant stemmed from the police operation against the Headhunters after 2 of their lads were in bed together when the police did an early morning knock on the door ? ,could be wrong of course .

Cba reading the whole thread but for me, it’s no different to the “Chelsea rent boy” chant that seemed have caused so much offence and drama a while ago.

Both chants are attacking a person’s perceived sexual behaviour.

You either ban both or both are sound.

Exactly, its about consistency and the principle itself. Because many chants can be argued either way unless they're mocking death.

I was wondering when offensive singing/chanting came into football? obviously not singing but I can just about remember when Dad first took me & my brother to Maine road (mid 1960s) & we sat in the Platt Lane on the wooden bench seats, if anybody was swearing loudly near us Dad used to say something like "do you mind I have got kids here" & most times people stopped swearing, I dont ever remember anyone telling him to F-off but it must have happened, Looking back now it seems like a very different world :-)
24 hour media has taught us to be offended by everything.

I always loved a good comic-abusive football chant - the one about Wayne Rooney's baby being Adebiyor's being a favorate one in years past. I accept that some go too far but really, so much noise about this. Foden has been sh*t most of the season and I doubt yesterday's no-show has little to do with a few hundred rags making lurid suggestions about his mother's sexual behaviour!

Just heard about Troy Deaney saying that it's just Football Banter ,totally different opinion when a Black plaÿer is taunted..Definitely not just football banter then .Both chants are appalling and have no place in football or society
Controversial opinion
Oh God that's a horrendous take
