The Cheltenham Festival.

£5 freebie..................winner?

I was interested to see how Pied Piper went on good ground and he looked even better and had nothing more than a stroll today. What does Elliot feed these horses, because I could do with some?
It would certainly be on anybody's short list for the Triumph.

A pleasing win, but I think Chantry House will have to improve on this performance to take the big one in March.

I had Paisley Park written off at the bottom of the hill, but he really did find some resolution to take this............and with his ears pricked. There's no doubt he still has ability, but not sure he's a betting proposition for the Stayers.

Balco Coastal jumped fast and fluently and the full set of hurdles would have played to his strengths in this one. North Lodge looks a nice horse though and showed great potential winning this on what is only his second run.

Worked in the Racing Industry for nigh on 30 years (not now), had access to RCA badges that gave me free entry to all Racecourses, went to plenty but always attended the Festival, usually just for a day. First one was Sea Pigeon winning the Champion Hurdle, had £5 on at 5/2. Great horse who went on to win the Ebor on the flat with 10 stone on its back including the jump jockey Johnny Francome.

Favourite day was watching the Gold Cup when Michael Dickinson saddled the first 5 home in the Gold Cup, it was 100/1 in the morning and some shrewd punters (not me) got on and filled their boots.

Still love the Festival and very much looking forward to it.

All the more remarkable that he was also an 11 year old. A feat that hasn't been replicated since.

The Festival brings out some great racing, wonderful horses and some epic finishes, but I feel they are doing their best in the name of greed to ruin it all.

You’re spot on there, used to be Tuesday to Thursday, can just about cope with 4 days but would like it to be Wednesday through Saturday, makes sense. Not 5 days though as that dilutes the quality.

Anything that can leave the rest of the field going up the cheltenham hill goes in the notebook.
I wonder do the likes of Mullens and Elliott have Hill finishes at their gallops to get them ready.

Inclines and interval training are integral in preparing horses for racing these days m7mcfc.

Pipe revolutionized training methods many years ago and from that there has been a natural progression if others wanted to keep up. There have been many stories emanating from Pond House, but on the positive side he brought a greater awareness to feed, weight and training that wasn't particularly mainstream before.

Unfortunately, they appeared to be an expendable commodity and not too many were improved after leaving to other trainers. There was a huge turnover of horses from sellers to championship class and winning was everything.

As usal alot of short priced over hyped short priced fancies will fail to do the business at Cheltenham - so a little bit of value is on offer with Bravemansgame - has done nothing wrong so far 16/1 ew

Can anybody inform me of what became of the triumph hurdle winner Northern Game as he beat the three legged triple winner of the champion hurdle See You Then in 1984?
Not sure but perhaps potentially the greatest hurdler was around a a few years before in the late 70’s. The previously unbeaten novice Golden Cygnet turned out for the Scottish Champion Hurdle, ridden by “Boots” Madden, he was clearly going to win the race but fell at the last hurdle and consequently died from the fall. In the race were Sea Pigeon and Night Nurse, both Champion Hurdle winners who were about to be trounced by a Novice. The horse has his own Wiki page, have a read, won all 6 races prior to Ayr, remains Timeforms highest rated Novice over 40 years later.

I listened to that race in my local Bookies over the Extel Broadcast.
