The clunk of death

I have the clunk of death it only started yesterday though. Anyway how long have I got until my hdd finally packs in ?

EDIT: I've backed up all my data to an external hdd, thing is though I'm not sure what hdd to buy now.

SSD are to small in storage size for the price atm and I can't fit in a second hdd inside my pc to compensate for the storage space lost. So its a toss up between a normal hdd and a hybrid.

Does anyone know anything about these new hybrid drives. Would I see a performance increase using one those compared to a normal hdd with SATA2 ?

Download spinrite from grc.com mate. Supposed to be very good at diagnosing and fixing hdd problems

The hdd is defiantly failing as files are going missing, there's a loud clunking noise every 4 seconds were the armature is smashing against the head. I'm also suffering from system instability so I'm guessing my computer will be dead very soon (BSOD).

I'm just torn between a hybrid hdd and a standard hdd.

The standard hdd is double my current hdd size were as the hybrid is half my current hdd size. I just don't know if the performance boost from a hybrid is worth the lost of 1.5Tb of storage space. PMSL my Mrs says that to me at least a couple of times a day don't worry about it.

Fuck it i'm thinking of buying a 240gb ssd does anyone have experience with mounting one of these in a desktop. What i mean is do i need any adapters not just for the drive bay but for the 4 pin molex of the psu and 7pin SATAII cable from the motherboard.

That will turn molex into SATA.

Surely you have a sata power cable which was powering your old hard drive?

How old is your PC though?
If it is say older than 3/4 years a SSD wont give you the real speed benefits.
