Giovinco or the Pharoah with where he is playing right now.
Pharaoh? And Giovinco could be a good shout.
Il Faraone = El Shaarawy.
Ah that would be a better player then. Why isn't he in the lineup?

-- Sun Jun 16, 2013 4:01 pm --

Not slagging off Mario, by any means, but he was jogging at various points and has given away several fouls when attempting to track back, both things he did when he was with us.

I guess I don't see the changed man everyone is going on about.
Every player jogs at times in a match. There was one point he should have been onside quicker but I'm still trying to figure out some of Mexico's passes at the back.

Of course, I jog through most of my matches, I meant jogging when he shouldn't of been (which includes that offside ambling, the counter attack where he should have been busting a gut to get to the far post, and the Pirlo throughball where he looked to be doing a ballet routine).

He has been good, but nothing different from what we saw every week. I think it is a case of grass is greener goggles.
I guess I just expect 9's to be weird like that. ;)

There's a huge difference between his role for City and Italy tonight

He's playing on his own up front. For City he was the 2nd forward

You have to play players to their strengths to see the best of them.

Mexico are poor - that helps Italy and Mario

I agree with that assessment. He has done his job but has not been particularly amazing.

That said, as Mexico gets tired, he'll start to do the two touch cut and shots that are instinctual for him.

One of those is bound to go in with more space provided.

-- Sun Jun 16, 2013 9:05 pm --

To conserve energy when they aren't running much to begin with?

Fair point. ;-)

Crying shame that GDS never made the grade with us at Spurs.

He's an absolute legend when he plays for Mexico.

Italy's 22 (don't want to try spelling that) is really frustrating.
Giaccherini, damn we italians hate him so much but Prandelli still call him in the national team..

Why the hatred? he's a very good player, would still have SES ahead of him though.
Because he doesn't deserve to be in national team, his performances have been poor, in the club too and there are:Candreva, Giovinco or Diamanti as option in that position. Elshaarawy is injuried btw.

He has actually been pretty awful for them in the last few matches he has played and was dropped.

Perhaps this chance has renewed his commitment, though.

Does Mexico do anything but play for a draw any longer?

That was a penalty against Balotelli.
