The Conservative Party/Government

Absolutely. There's this idea that social problems are caused by laziness or poor moral standards, as if these things are in terminal decline. But the reality is that there are just as many lazy people now as there were 60 years ago. There are just as many shit parents as there were 60 years ago (although to be fair, more having to do it by themselves). The difference is the environment they're in. You've got a country that is impossible to live in without having two parents working. You've got more and more people having to move far away from their family, so they can't rely so much on grandparents for help. You've got supermarkets full of ultra processed food that is quicker and easier to cook, and lasts longer in your cupboard/freezer. And now you're not getting your kids' regular dental checkup. Is it any wonder there are so many fat kids with shit teeth? I remember watching an early episode of QI where they pointed out that British kids had the healthiest teeth in the world. I wonder how far we've fallen since that was recorded.

Is it nanny state? I went to primary school in the late 80s, early 90s, and we definitely had a dentist come in to teach us how to properly brush our teeth. Is that really a controversial idea? Is it any different from the firefighters coming in to talk about fire safety, or the police doing a class on road safety? If it's the actual teachers having to teach it, that's another story. I reckon they've probably got enough on their plates with the maths, English, science, etc, without expecting them to solve all of society's problems on top of that, especially those caused by lack of funding in other areas.
We had school nurses checking on our health, on top of the local clinics doing post-natal care then doling out NHS orange juice (stopped scurvy but rotted teeth!).

Meanwhile…..following general sanders view that we should train up a ‘citizens army‘ and this government’s desperation for any PR opportunity……
Duds’ Army.
Capt. Mainwaring…….….Mark Francois.
A pompous self-important little man with a pathological hatred of Europeans.
Sgt. Wilson………Jakob Rees-Mogg.
A louche public school toff with no idea of what’s really going on around him.
Private Walker………Michael Gove.
A slippery spiv who will get you anything if the price is right.
Private Pike………..Rishi Sunak.
A whiny little Mother‘s boy, constantly being a ‘stupid boy’
Private Frazer………..(the sadly missed)Peter Bone.
Hand wringing constantly moaning doom merchant with a face like a wet Sunday.
Warden Hodges……..Nigel Farage……..a pain in everyone’s arse.
I’m stuck for a corporal jones specifically because there are so many senile old bores with their tales of how great we used to be when we went abroad and killed the ‘fuzzy wuzzies’ and who are constantly out of step.
Any input would be welcome.

been around for about 40 years - laser sharp satire as always - like Private Eye been on point for years and they really piss off people who think they are "highbrow" because they deliver satire to their doors in a manner that they understand better than HIGNFY - they see that as for the masses but Fascinating Aida is like going to Glyndebourne and having the performers spitting in their faces.

Corporal Jones is surely Boris Johnson?

When you consider prevention though why do people instantly think that the NHS is at fault? Why does the NHS have to prevent and treat every single ailment, why do we not take responsibility for our own health? The biggest contributing factor just for example with the majority of ailments and especially the leading causes of death is alcohol and smoking which are self-inflicted.

Tooth decay is prevented by brushing your teeth and not eating tons of sugar. This fact isn't changed by regular dental appointments. Dentists treat decay, they don't prevent it. Tooth decay is non-existent in places in Africa where dentists aren't even available.

The real question you should be asking on the welfare of children is where are the parents?
The NHS is not at fault what is left works brilliantly but the real question is why the government are restricting funds for our health services

It’s to easy to blame parents a baby born to inadequate parents can do nothing about it without state intervention. That’s why we pay into a system that is supposed to care for all our people

Yes, so true, but some people don’t believe they should pay for something they don’t use.
