I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Leadership. His seeming inability to follow the rules is going to do for him. The charge sheet just keeps mounting up.

They‘re talking about an investigation but who is going to investigate the Met to find them complicit?

Met Police are all over 10 Downing Street and will already hold evidence of bookings in and out. They will know exactly who was there, who didn’t turn up and what deliveries were made.

If it did happen then the Met allowed it to happen, but under whose orders?

According to that article he knew about the party so that would certainly explain why they are being coy on the details.

To a certain extent that works but like Trump and far right populist the hardcore cult following isn't that big. At some point the moderates who lent you there fault start seeing the mask slip and it all starts to unravel. You can only gas light so many people into believing the lies and corruption are nothing, Right now its a constant newsfeed of Johnsons fuck ups and lies which he can no longer hide,
When the Daily Fail turns its guns on you like it did again today with Christmaspartygate the clock is ticking down on Johnson. Its now a matter of not if but when he's pushed or jumps shop. I am no political guru but you can see that the Tories will not let toxic Johnson run an election.
