No I've been wracking my brains but can't come up with anyone credible either. The centrist element of the Tory party has been underestimating/misreading the right since the days of Thatcher's leadership campaign and that complacency means they now in effect find themselves purged. I think it's been easier to subvert the Conservatives compared to Labour, partly because of the level of backing they've had but also due to the nature of their membership and their structure.

There ain’t going to be any changing of course here from the PM and chancellor. Doing that means one of them has to go, needs to be a vote of no confidence. Wasting a week doing a party conference when the country’s finances are burning down should not be happening.

I have to echo some of the comments above about mental well being.
I'd only started to really get myself back on track after a few tough years and I've genuinely been upbeat until quite recently. My tools and techniques for counteracting low moods are being stretched quite severely.

Staggering that the government are going to try and stick with the same plan. I genuinely think they could be gone in a week or two.

Perhaps they feel their main job is done and those who contrived their policy need this time for unpleasant truths to be solved by others, Eg B of E, after all their pensions are safe and maybe they will share part of the forward betting on the pound rewards?
There again maybe they were incompetent and were innocent stooges for others.
