The Conservative Party

I don't think they have. The RCN is citing precedents that time limits in law extend to the end of the day from when the time limit starts.

In any case, it's a Tory law so if they have drawn up legislation that's not clear, whose fault is that? Let's face it, the Tories often seem to get caned by the courts.
Hope you’re / they’re (RCN) right.

Around the corner from me is a Waitrose and I rarely shop there for obvious reasons, but I do.pop in to see if they have any bargains in the "Golden ticket section." Recently I have noticed that the reductions are very little, usually just 30-50p off. As their prices are exorbitant this obviously is neither use nor ornament as it means the reduced price is still..... exorbitant.
A couple of weeks ago while looking through them I got chatting to the delightful young trainee manager pricing them up. I joked about the reduced price and asked why there was now very little knocked off. She told me that the reductions are now set through head office on a computerised list. Prior to that they had licence to reduce them themselves. They used to continually do this so the later the store got to closing the better the reduction. All gone now I'm afraid.

9p for smoked salmon fillets in Sainsbury's 10 mins before closing is my best whoopsie. Four packs... but a friend is on a scheme whereby she collects stuff from stores and distributes it to poor families, so I want to know whether I'm depriving a poor family of food or just stopping good food being dumped.

I'll give Waitrose their due they do give loads of unsold food to the charities, I've been there when they've turned up to collect it and chatted to the Wythenshawe food bank team a couple of times.
When they had their own licence to reduce items I had become friendly with a couple of the girls in there. They would get the magic gun and reduce my items massively, sometimes down to 10p for a ready meal! Sadly they've both left now but I guess with the new system they wouldn't have been able to do it anymore anyway

I have just cried at an item I’ve seen on BBC Breakfast from Bridlington. A couple in their 80s, the lady in a wheelchair, having to go to Citizens Advice and possibly food banks. She was crying saying she’d worked all her life and never thought this would happen.

I know there are thousands, probably hundreds of thousands, but this couple resonated with me for some reason.

This government, this flaming, selfish, horrible load of people need to watch and take note and help the people of this country. But they just don’t seem to care.
I am so angry. Just so angry.

Presumably the policy is partly down to them being part of John Lewis, and therefore employee-owned (I think)?

Feels wrong 'liking' this but I agree with your sentiment.

For decades there was an unwritten post-war social contract that was far from perfect but basically said if you contribute you will be looked after. Successive governments, including a number of conservative ones, broadly upheld that social contract. We are now at the point that it's been torn to shreds, the pieces burnt and the ashes are being rubbed in our faces.

How anyone can be anything other than angry with the way this country is being governed is beyond me. They are literally destroying our way of life before our eyes.

They interrupted your Sunday lunch and St Georges Day to funnel money to Mrs Sunak - they have no shame

Who are “Britain People”…sounds a bit national front to me. Perhaps they don’t like rich non-white people. Anyway what a load of old shit that post anyway. From the Guardian
