The Conservative Party

Maybe McVey and her husband have one of those complex relationships where they live together, and everyone knows that they live together, but they claim that they actually don’t so they can avoid CGT when they sell one of the properties, or so they can claim rent or something.

I’ve heard it’s not actually that uncommon with MPs.

so they can avoid CGT when they sell one of the properties

Its made clear and he doesn't deny the fact that they only own one of the properties hence they claim rent.

In any event if I was the tenant paying £10k rent pa I'd be very worried because in the polls today the Tories have slipped again and its coming close to parity with or even overlap by Reform UK very soon. That tenant will be the recipient of a section 21 notice when they are both out of a job and we aren't paying the rent for them.

The notion that he was "forced" to rent his flat is also farcical. What he means is the expenses scandal meant he would have to pay his way in the world and fund his mortgage however he saw the loophole where he could rent out his flat and pocket the cash then rent somewhere to live and we would pick up the bill again.

I admire your steadfast support for a failing govt but feel duty bound to warn you that your position means you are doing an admirable impersonation of Capt Edward Smith on the bridge of the Titanic

Another nail in their coffin introduced in 1995 and kicked down the road, listening on the radio the bill will be closer to £36 billion in compensation, that on top of the £17 billion they need to find fir the black hole in public pension case they lost. These women will not see a penny, the FBU won compensation from 2015 and we are still waiting for payout. These people just want to work us into the grave whilst using our money for shit like Rwanda or paying their mates for dodgy PPE.

You'll soon get the usual dickheads on here saying it's fine because it's "within the law".
So many MPs are landlords. A local councillor who's also a landlord and who voted on any policy that affected rental income or renters would be breaking the law, but MP landlords can vote on laws that affect renters or landlords.

That said, the only issue here is that the McVeys rented out a flat that was near Parliament. At least the Blairs bought student flats in Bristol. But that was in the days when a Labour PM owning more than one property was a Daily Mail shock horror story.
