The Dark Web...

As they should. The internet has thrived precisely because know-nowt governments have been keeping their noses out. Of course any new chance to control the people is a chance most people in power can't seem to pass up, especially people like Theresa May.
Let's just say that when David Cameron said we need to ban encryption any lingering faith I had that politicians were semi competent when it came to technology and the internet was obliterated instantly

I sometimes fear what state the internet will be like in 10 years with people like Theresa may and Hilary Clinton running the show

Whats your issue with the surface web though? People hacking your communications?

If your worried about what governments are monitoring on the surface web you must either be extremely paranoid or doing something dodgy. Or is it you don't want anyone finding your weird porn fetishes and blackmailing you over it haha?

Or, you could be whistleblowing and if so, I salute you comrade.

Apparently there are a lot of banned books on the deep web, I'm not sure what kind of books these would be though.
My issue is that the internet is fine as it is and things like net neutrality are important to keep the internet free which seem increasingly under threat

I'm not worried one bit about my security to be honest. I'm admittedly nowhere near as clever as TCIB but I feel I'm pretty competent when it comes to network security; I use Linux, a VPN and try and use different passwords for every website I use

The issue I have is that the internet doesn't need to be overly controlled by the governments as it is right now

I can understand that. It threatens them. The level of propaganda they can fuel through mainstream media is much less effective when the world's population has communication with each other, can learn things from each other etc.

The U.S.A is one of the worst (or best?) countries for fuelling propaganda to it's citizens. Since widespread access to the internet a lot of these citizens have seen the truth about their government and have started to resent the government instead of the subliminally enforced patriotism of the 50s etc. Without sounding like a nutcase conspiracy theorist I really loathe the U.S. government and the corporations that hold power of it - the U.S. is just a modern wild west run by fcking cowboys still. TTIP just summarises them - profit over populace. No concern for the health and welfare of their own citizens, never mind all. Not surprising really since their long established upper classes are descended from the "WASP"s which sought to wipe out an entire race of people. Nothing against the population - beautiful country and much of their culture is a welcome asset to the world still (a lot not also).

Just to point out to the thread as well: I've read the deep web is a different beast to what it was back in the day when a lot of people used it pretty safely for drugs or whatnot. I think you have to be a lot more secure nowadays. It surprises me that the internet is like the iceberg model, where the deep web dwarfs the surface web for content - that's pretty crazy considering most don't know about it.
Agree with pretty much everything you said; TTIP scares the hell out of me considering the implications it will have and hardly anyone I know even knows about it; they are trying to slip it under the radar and so far it's working

Exactly. "They" probably encouraged the overwhelming younger generation's argument/anger at not being able to freely travel, welcome others etc. and the viewpoint Brexit would take us backwards, destabilise peace amongst countries. Yes those things are important but not at the expense of the hugely concerning matters that were being slipped in under people's noses whilst they were busy being outraged. A lot of the average person would brush off what I'm saying here as being paranoid, conspiracy theorist etc. but they don't realise that governments for a long time (e.g. the Nazi's) have done so much research on tactics of manipulating people - it's on them to keep peace between the state and the people and get what they want.

I watched a video at the time, filmed by an Irish MEP at European parliament going to read the deal regarding TTIP (politicians are meant to have access of information since they represent the people and of course we live in a "democracy"). As he describes: he had to go into a room to read it, he had a very limited amount of time like 10/15mins to read a hefty document before an alarm would go off, couldn't take in an electronic device, couldn't make notes on what was in the document, oh and by the way he was supervised by 2 U.S. embassy guards! How is this allowed? People being more concerned with what Kim Kardashian is doing ffs!
Welcome to the 21st century mate; people more concerned about what's going on with coronation street or the latest garbage on Twitter rather than being concerned about what freedom people have left

Corporations are slowly taking over it seems; they have no doubt had their grubby little hands all over TTIP
