The day the tables turned

Just doing a bit of reflection and a few years have gone by now. I know this has been done 1,000 times but did not know which thread to put this in:

Yaya's goal against the rags in the FA Cup semi felt like the pivotal moment for me. So much built up emotion and so much energy. It felt like everything after this moment was inevitable, all the way up to the Treble. Yaya also had an unbelievable way of making it look like he was playing with toddlers in the park.

I was there on the day,and I've seen the goal over and over, but it's only on today's viewing ,after all those years....that I truly appreciate the deft ball ball control of Yaya ...he ran to press Carrick immediately, weighed up the situation in a blink of an eye, intercepted the pass....but didn't just stop the pass,he cooly cushioned the ball with his first touch which was so brilliant....,which then gave him the momentum to get a head of steam to run at the last defender....his whole movement anticipation, quick thinking and fantastic ball control turned a defensive press into a glorious scoring opportunity in the blink of an eye.
I really am in awe of the delicate touch of such a big man, moving at high speed.
What a player!!
What a goal.
Fantastic memories.

So good to see City in their traditional kit: sky blue shirts, white shorts, sky blue socks with maroon tops. For me, that is City. Only the socks ‘modernised’.

It was that game, but before the goal.

We were right behind the goals and I still don't know how Berbaflop missed. We looked like a rabbit in the headlights, a team for who this was the big occasion against a team who knew they were superior.

Yet they were no better than us during the game and, at some point, we realised. I think it was during the first half, but certainly at half time. We didn't score on the break, against the run of play, from a free kick etc, we out pressed, out passed and out played them.

The turning point for me was his after match comments that afternoon at the swamp
It had all the hallmarks of a pre derby Mike Doyle about it. Going right out there and telling the world to smell the coffee hijacking a global media rag show

It definitely was the turning point that day and interesting how our rise since has coincided with their downfall.

For me though the wheels were put in motion in the summer 2009 window. We bought some decent players that year who would go on to play a big part in our early, pre Pep success, but for the Rags it was significant too. They lost Ronaldo and Tevez and replaced them with Valencia and Owen. It was the first time you felt they didn't get their own way and couldn't just do what they wanted anymore. That's why that billboard pissed them off so much, they knew what was coming.

How many players since then have they signed that have improved them long term? Hardly any I would say. Where as we always plan for the long term,. occasionally we may get it wrong but more often than not we got it spot on.

They may never be better than us for a significant period of time ever again.

The only thing missing is them getting relegated again
Ah yes. We've heard the clock tick many times, and that would be the ultimate tock.
I think the fuckers will be much better this season, but they were shite in 72-73 and relegated in 73-74. It would be brilliant to see it again. - Checks date of away derby.

that utter determination by our players to beat them in a game doesn't seem to have been there recently.

i have a feeling it will return this season.
I hope so. We may have bigger fish to fry in the overall picture, but beating them means a lot to so many fans. If you don't understand local rivalry then football isn't for you.

Easy to forget that they battered us for 30 mins that day.

Til Mancini told the back four to step up and stop being so scared.

The rest is history.
Indeed, but the goal and red card knocked the stuffing out of them.
The team that always sneaked late goals offered nothing for the final 10 minutes and their fans were pissing off early as they knew there was no way back.
Bring on Adam Johnson was a master-stroke as the rags shit themselves every time he got the ball. He did very little in fairness but they were scared stiff of him.
The full time celebrations were certainly better than after winning the final and probably on a par with 93:20 and Istanbul.

the tables have well and truly changed...

the rags are now mid-table at best, like we used to be.

we are dining at the top table, like they used to do.

fuck 'em!
To paraphrase a certain individual "we knocked them of their fucking perch! "

I thought it was about the first 20 minutes, when they probaby should've scored a couple.

I always say the turning point was when Gareth Barry had that shot that hit the side netting. That seemed to put us on the front foot and they looked second-best from then on.

The Yaya FA Cup goal could have been a one-off, just a fleeting moment where City finally get a good result, like the 3-1 Maine Road Final Derby or the 4-1 at the new COMS. So that's not when it was for me.

Neither was it when we won 6-1 at the Swamp. That was a great performance which stunned the Rags who underestimated us, but that's not when things changed.

For me, it was the home derby of that same seasons, Kompany's 1-0. United now KNEW what they were up against. They KNEW they had to beat us. United sides in the past would have come out and dealt with the threat, but we were too composed, to determined, too soild. And we won. We did the job and now United were panicking. But for me, hearing the stadium rocking, singing 'Na Na Na City' having just done the double over the Rags, I knew things were changing.

We have had some top days as city fans ( and some really really shit ones ) but that day is right up there as one of the best probably top 5

It would be great if someone could like that clip to watch it again

That's how i remember the game.
Add on we started the second half brilliantly and contained them to only one chance.
Never seen so many drunk City fans at one game as well..
Barry. Toure. Silva and another our midfield for a couple of seasons.
