Thought the Sheikh was genuine but I didn't think we'd get the level of investment we've had. Robinho was initially viewed as a publicity stunt!
 
I was working in Northampton at the time and just 6 weeks before, I'd been told to expect City going into administration.

We always had a team meeting on the Monday morning. One of the senior managers sent his apologies as he'd just come back from holiday but one of his staff laughed that he was more interested in the news that his team had been taken over by Arab billionaires. I asked who he supported and she said "Manchester City". I then had 2 hours of the meeting to get through before I could get any news.

Later on in the pub all I could hear was people talking about it.

I was adzimck i believe, I've come far haven't I! I'm pretty sure i was the only aussie lurking in those realms. I was a young lad too, i just remember how the general forum was just a mix of football and Mancunian lifestyle in the same thing.

To think how far we have come, jesus!
 
Remember it well-Just remember scoring every source all day for more news, wanted to believe all the hype but also feared they were some jokers with loads of mouth and no cash, UNTIL.....


A big Utd fan who's family lived in Abu Dhabi sat down opposite me- he was visibly shaken and I remember him saying "mate I don't think you understand just how rich these guys are, if they are serious about this they can outbid any club in the world"

It's only then it really sank in....



I bet another rag £50 on that date that we'd win the prem within 5 years.....I'm pretty confident on that one still!
 
What a day

I had finished my summer job for the summer (was at Uni back then) and hopped onto bluemoon about 11am for my customary half an hour browse and the forum was going mental.

I didnt move a muscle from the forum til about 1am the next day, apart from random getting up from my chair, giggling like a schoolgirl and punching the air as the realisation of what was happening dawned in

And when Robinho signed, I could not wait for the Chelsea game. Was already on a high from SWP coming back and scoring two at Sunderland away a few days previously

I was in a similar situation! I was on a cruise with my family and when w got home i picked up a free MEN from the airport and this infamous picture was on the back....

Playing Golf at Boysnope that day. Had about 60 txts that day off mates letting me know what was happening. Left the 19th at about 7pm and raced home.

The rest as they say, is history.
 
I was working in sales for Dell computers and I kept picking up my phone and hanging back up to keep reseting myself in the que. I eventually started to have to answer phone calls but I would just read the internet as I was talking to people on the phone. Not sure if I sold a single computer that day or not. I wrote this huge post here on bluemoon because I was terrified that I would be seen as a glory hunter even though I had been supporting the club for about 5 or 6 years before that. I wish there was a way to go back and see exactly what the bluemoon page looked like on that day. Great memories!
 
I'd just come out of hospital. I got home and switched on SSN and I saw we'd been taken over... I was jumping around the room, then had to have a lie down!

From that original thread on Bluemoon that first mentioned the takeover someone posted a link to RagCafe and I saw this gem
City were a bigger club than us till the fifties. They're still a big club, if not exactly massive

They're now also the richest club in the world

Did anybody get the day on record. Looked on youtube but there is only short overview clips.

Remember sitting up all day watching it, it was brilliant.

It's great reading the BBC Live Commentary of the day. Both Gareth Barry and Sergio Aguero are joked about as potential targets! Brings back great memories. I remember driving to work the next day and they were discussing it on Radio 5 and I just couldn't get my head round it.
