There is a god Barry's gone!!!
The days of Ireland getting to a major championships now are getting slimmer and slimmer as the games go by. Apart from Germany the group is going to the wire but what Ireland would once have is now long gone. Lansdowne Road aka Aviva Stadium used to be a fortress and no disrespect to the Scots and Poland Ireland would have enough to get results against these teams. Sadly this Irish team is lacking a lot a aging team and a manager who lacks a Plan B and C.
This team needs a complete overhauld from the bottom up. Irish under age football is shocking our Under age set up and league is dreadful. I look at the players coming in from the under 21s and the only 1s to make the step up are Robbie Brady and Jeff Hendrick but we need more fresh faces.
We will go into the World Cup quailifers would see Robbie Keane , Shay Given and John O Shea retire. Then add into the mix Wes Hoolihan , Glen Whelan and John Walters the team will be in major need of rebuilding. We should be able to replace Given with Westwood or Randolph. O Shea could well be replaced with Ciaran Clark. The midfield there is no one who will come in that will change it for the better. Up front Ireland are rightly screwed no strikers coming into the mix nothing its sad. Martin O Neill is the wrong man for this job. We need someone who will promote some young players and get more fresh blood into the team. I wouldnt mind if we were to miss out on the Euros in 2016 and the World Cup in 2018 but by 2020 I would hope we might have some players in the squad who could get us to that Euros.
While I look at the Welsh squad, Scotts and the Northern Irish squads and i see motivated players playing with pride and passion and competing which is all i ask from this Irish squad. The standard of players from all these squads aint much of a difference but the other squads have the players who want to go to the finals it seems.

Well imo if that **** O'Neill goes we'll see a significant improvement in the team. Most of the older players you've mentioned are among our worst performers anyway so good riddance.

It all went to shit in Saipan. As soon as half the country believed we could go to a finals tournament and win, led by the full of themselves Roy-lovers. Such arrogance was ridiculous and IMO led to mistake after mistake. If we had continued on the optimistic fun loving road we were on we might have had a fighting chance.

Getting all uppity about players singing the anthem - arrogance. Not looking after Stephen Ireland - more arrogance. Getting in Trappatoni ... and paying him a fortune - arrogance.

I agree there's no coming back now. Rugby has taken over. Maybe in 20 or 30 years it'll swing around again.

O'Neill was dreadful at Sunderland, initial new manager bounce....but never a plan B.

Lawman you know you are on your merry way.
Aguero I had hopes that form players would be picked by O Neill but its still the regulars. I am pissed off with it. James McClean isnt a winger clueless. Whelan and McCarthy Whelan is finished. Harry Arter would of been a decent players to see against the Scots but he got injured sadly but he wouldnt of got a look under O Neill. You look at players he is avoiding Damian Delaney should be starting centre back. Dont even get me started about the forwards. Robbie hasnt been doing it since he fucked off to the US. Shane Long should be played has something about him at times but lacks a goal. I am pissed off with how shit Ireland is and with the money O Neill is getting its sickening that he doesnt play form players its sad really.

The **** has been poor everywhere bar Leicester. I don't know how he's stolen a living for so long. Even at Villa he achieved the bare minimum with Spurs in the shit and ourselves pre takeover. A park the bus merchant who can't organise a defence and coach a team to counter and as for his assistant? That wanker shouldn't be allowed in Landsdowne Road.

He did a great job after the mess Staunton left, that should be clearer than ever after the current regime.
Only by playing ridiculously bad. Any manager could do that and the money saved could be going into youth football.

We were at our best when our team had a common English accent.... But even if we pulled back in the grandkids it's too late...England are shite too. We should have seen the writing on the wall years ago and sent fine young ones to South America, Spain, Germany and the Ivory Coast to have some fun. By now we'd have a great young foreign sounding squad.

Agree with Leighton but can I just add Steven Naismith is a ****. He was bad in Scotland but this evening he must have been in double figures for dives though it takes a special kind of **** to dive and when the ref buys it start screaming for a card. A thoroughly dislikeable little ****.
