The demise of the British Pub

Went in several pubs yesterday and every one was rammed out at 1.30pm.
Turks Head in town is my go to boozer at the mo. Nice crystal gold, table on the front and Northern classics out of the speakers. A great spot to watch the world go by. This and that round the corner for take away tea as well.

Shudehill ?

Pubs still closing at an alarming rate !
Are they? I read somewhere that the rate of pubs opening and closing, there was little in it. That’s why I asked the question this morning of the OP who said a third to half of pubs will close by April.

Where I’m at they all seem to be doing a roaring trade and you’d never guess that we were supposed to be in a cost of living crisis.

I cut through town to Victoria after the match on Sunday by the backstreets and every single pub i passed was rammed, every table outside full. Being a bank holiday snd glorious weather obviously helped but i was still surprised how busy it was.

There's a fair amount of churn, but nowhere near a decline of half. No doubt that the rates bills, on top of the minimum wage hikes have put severe pressure on sites that were not doing well before, but there are many new openings to compensate closures - example the closure of Peaky Blinders near the Great Northern immediately replaced by Katie O'Briens - a (get this) Irish themed venue. So, plenty of churn, but the demise of the local is a bit exaggerated.

Oh, and those pesky drink driving rules isn't a great excuse really....

Try going in through the week when the weather isnt like it is now ! Ghost towns

My local, Nelly, (Lord Nelson) Ashton under Pants, 2.60 Boddies, 3.90 Guiness and Perotti, Nelly Lager (Holsten), 2.60, Thwaites 2.50 plus a free pint when buying 7 so effectively 2.19 a pint, great pub.

It's always full of rich kids/students who are always crying poverty.
