The Derek Kevan/Jimmy Murray era

We minded cars.
If you declined our offer you often found the metal car logo or bonnet badge mysteriously disappeared on your return.

Haha. Customer service, 1960s style.

I always had a soft spot for Dave Connor. A quiet unassuming bloke but he never let the team down. A utility player whose speciality was marking players out of a game. If he was asked to man mark anyone they disappeared from the match and never got a touch.

Wasn't he put on Alan Ball to mark him out of the match? Good utility player who never grabbed the headlines.

A great goal scoring partnership, the dream ticket.

Some blasts from the past, Cliff Sear, David (Waggy) Wagstaffe, Dave Bacuzzi, Mike Doyle, Nelly Young, David Connor, Harry Dowd, Alan Ogley, Johnny Crossan, Roy Gratrix, Stan Horne.

I met Stan in Bury a few years back, City's first ever black player, still fit and well, he was surprised I remembered him. :-)

And at Maine Road, Invalid Cars at the corner of the pitch on the running track, hot oxo at half time, and the uncovered scoreboard end.

Any memories?
I will add on Bobby Kennedy and Vic Gomersall, both full backs and neither English

Remember Ralph Brand being bought from Rangers. He was going to be a sensation but sadly didn't turn out like that.Typical City again
Remember getting his autograph outside Maine rd the day he signed for us in the school holidays, also I was stood behind the goals at Deepdale when he slotted one home 3-1 win.

I remember waiting for the half time scores to appear and waiting for the guy to climb the ladders to put the scores up.

First ever game 1964 home to Preston , lost 3-2. Kevan scored both and Preston had Kelly in goal.
I think that was my first game, if memory serves me correct they had Alex Dawson up front who looked a huge player, not sure if he was a England international.

George Hannah, Peter Dobing, Barry Stobart, Matt Gray those were the days.
Waggy was my favorite - great player.
My brother did an interview with Derek Kevan. He spoke about how much he enjoyed his years at City

Storing bikes in people’s back yards. I never did it myself as I couldn’t afford a bike :(
My mum did that as a girl. She lived on Ridgeway St which was situated on the school playing field opposite the City Chippy. She would mind their bikes and then when the Kippax exit gates opened, before the end of the game, she and her friends would go onto the Kippax. Then run back at the whistle to give people their bikes back
