The Dzeko/Tevez Conundrum...

I agree with what you're saying... in principle!

But Boateng was always a central defender who covered in at full back. It must have been apparent to our scouting staff that Boateng does not fly down the wing and play like another winger. The fact that he's probably behind both Richards and Zabaleta for that right back position must be worrying.

And Kolarov on the other side... we had Bridge there, we're desparate for some pace, as all good full backs need these days... and we buy someone actually slower than Bridge!

I think Kolarov's future at City is left midfield, as I doubt anyone will trust him as a defender... ala' Bale.

That's £30m on two full backs who, so far, have not improved us one iota.

I'm not sure who we should have bought, but seeing as we have a huge and expensive scouting network I genuinely expected better.

Surely someone sits down and thinks through what specific qualities we need in any replacement player? Just a thought.
Soulboy cheer up m8, things aint that bad, we aint perfect, nothin is.

I was answering a point made by the OP.

That's all.

Do you not have an opinion on the subject?

It would be nice to hear it... rather than just shrugging your shoulders... I mean, isn't that what forums are for?

As an aside, what's to be cheerful about? Haven't you heard the result from the swamp yet?

;-))

M8 i meant no offence to you, sorry. I just remember when you was happy, enjoyed your posts thats all.

Silva has a more or less free role, as does Tevez if we're honest. What we lack is the focal point, ie Dzeko. Given that Silva and Tevez are undroppable, then the width indeed needs to come from the fullbacks.

Now, Richards looks able to do that role, as he's shown in his last few games. Kolarov also had a great first half against Villa.

I'm loathe to trot out the 'time to gel' shite, but it's perhaps true in this instance - we have to get that balance of when the full-backs should burst forward, who covers, etc. It's something for the whole team to learn. It maybe contributes to the way we keep possession and seem to let the opposition get set defensively. The fullbacks need to be a wee bit more adventurous.

I don't care what we are paying Dzeko, you go with a Mario/Tevez tandem right now. Dzeko should be coming off the bench for a bit he does not look very good right now. I take Balo over him every day of the week.

It's not going to be a popular opinion here, especially since Džeko has looked burnt out and off the pace since the Villa game, but I'll throw it out there: for City's long term future as a team, I think it might be better to sell Tevez in the summer. Not for Džeko to simply replace Tevez, but to hopefully lead to a more balanced squad. Of course I rate Tevez as a player - he's an absolutely brilliant individual, and he has as good a highlight reel as anyone in the league right now. Like someone said though, a number of perfectly fine strikers have come and gone through City lately and none of them seem to have been able to strike a lasting partnership with the Argentine. Is it really a coincidence? I'm starting to think that the way Tevez plays the game simply means that he has to be at the center of his team's approach. I just don't think that having a team of Tevez and 10 workers is the way to go in the long run. Džeko and Balotelli are both world class talents, and a team that could accommodate both of them while brining in other skilled players at other positions is what City should go for at this point.

Best thread of the day. Its clear nothings gone according to plan with the signings. We just have to trust that Mancini will be able to solve the problems.
Replace the word trust with hope

I've just re-read what I posted back to you and I apologise... I do sound like a right miserable fucker!

Didn't mean any harm. Soz.

I think for Dzeko to flourish I'm afraid Tevez may have to go, watching yesterday some players almost seemed frightened to shoot and kept passing to Tevez, for me Silva just doesn't shoot enough when he cuts in. As others have said I think we need some with speed up front to play off Dzeko and Id love Tevez to play this roll but in my opinion he is far to selfish to do this. With regard Kolarov how can our scouts have recommended this guy as a full back for our league, he will never play there again, he can't handle anyone with pace!! I like the bloke and some have said he could play left midfield like Bale but I think that will be Marios spot. Some of our signings have baffled me, yesterday our midfield were better than the scum but they are just too slow on the break, you could see Joe Hart screaming at them as they just lumbered forward and he wanted to throw it out. Don't get me wrong I think so far we've had a good season, but to push on from this next season we need to up the pace in the team and punish people.

Been thinking about it since last night and I reckon we should be using the FA Cup game and the EUROPA games in the next few weeks to let Carlos, Silva, and Dzeko play together. Dzeko needs to get his touch up to speed, and also needs to develop an understanding with the other two. It's the perfect opportunity against 'lesser' opposition. This isn't the time for squad rotation in those positions IMO...

While I hope you're right, I fully expect Tevez to be rested for the games you mention.
