The Elano/Robinho conundrum

Elanjo , I am impressed by your support of Elano but can you tell me what he has done this season that warrants your continuing adulation? What games has he been instrumental in us winning ( apart from Villa) or what magical moments has he produced which will live in the memory?

He is a talented footballer no doubt but he has to either show that talent a hell of a lot more or at least show a lot more effort and a real heart for the game and the team or else he is destined to be an ex City player. I cannot remember him ever , since the very early days before the premiership teams knew how to play him , control a match for City and surely if he is that good he would have been able to do that?

Not entirely sure what you are getting at. Do you mean why are some people supporting Elano but keen to slag Robinho off?

Yeah, thats what I mean. I can't figure it out, how there seems to be more support for one player going through a period of poor form than another.
The only thing I can think is that some people think that Elano is a good player going through a rough patch, whereas Robinho is just a bad player who doesn't deserve our support. Unless they're saying that Elano is more deserving of support because his attitude is better than Robinho's?

It just doesn't make sense!

There is nothing of the sort going on on this board. You must have missed all the abuse Elano gets. The anti-Brazilian clique have simply moved on to Robinho as the new scapegoat because Elano isn't playing as much.

Hughes is a football genius, all the Brazilian internationals are shit and need shipping out ASAP, and anybody who disagrees with me knows fcuk all about football.

I don’t want to hear all this bollocks about Hughes affecting their confidence with his shit tactics and aloof management style.

We need battlers loads of them, blokes that will kick shit out of the opposition and nick a goal for us here and there, thus we will conquer the globe with our unique brand of football.

You don’t agree with me you can all fcuk off

Hehe, nice one.

He plays for City, so he gets my support, and yours I hope. As for adulation... Where do you get this from? I admire his ability and think if played in the correct position(ie the position that Sven played him when he arrived - behind the forward) he can be one of our best players and a striker's dream. However, if you look back in my posting history then you will find out that I have been very critical of him, earlier in the season.

If you arent referring to any other post I have made and you are just basing your view of this adulation of mine on this thread I must remind you that all I did was say that the following quote was factually false.

"Elano hasn't hit a blue shirt in ages if the pass is over 10 yards"

If Elano was in the side and Robinho on the bench the stories would be the opposite.

It's much easier to have a good game on the bench (unless you fall off...or do a Demarcus Beasley)

I agree with the OP...

I have found it so strange at times that Robinho has been universally lambasted on this board, to the point where people are suggesting we should sell him in the summer...yet Elano, is still somehow seen as a misunderstood genius...

When Elano has been criticized it has been because he has contributed very little this season in the games he's played in. Robbie, on the other hand, has probably been involved heavily in 90% of the goals we've scored...

On the subject of Robinho - I just don't understand what people expect of him. It's his first season in the premiership, he's playing in a new team, who lets face it, are still a work in progress. People keep questioning his commitment, but honestly, other than maybe two or three games all season, he has worked his bollocks off...even against Aalborg last night, nobody has mentioned the number of times he tracked back and was in the face of their players in our half of the pitch...

Robinho's a confidence player, probably the most textbook example I've ever seen.

He's down right now and he needs love from all quarters and a goal, both will lift his spirits and you will see a markedly better player. He's been quite vocal in his appreciation for City fans vs. every other set of fans he's played for, take that away and lets be honest there's not a whole lot of other reasons for him to stay. If we sell him to Chelski this summer you know, you just fucking KNOW he'd having a blinding season and we'd all be left crying.

and without doubt in the top ten (maybe top 5 on his day) best players I've seen in all my 40 years of supporting city.
get behind him and we'll see the best of him. I can't believe there are fucking doughnuts who think we should get rid
