I didn't know whether to buy this game so I dusted off my copy of Oblivion which I got about halfway through the first time, and loaded it up to start a new game.

Fucking hell it's shit. Almost every character in the game sounds like Jauffre, the actor doesn't even bother attempting a different accent. I'm furiously skipping through the atrocious dialogue, but this isn't the worst aspect...

The worst aspect for me is the game just assumes you're a big fan of the series and doesn't bother teaching you the absolute basics, for example I want to do magic to kill enemies but all I've got is a shitty 'flare' attack and the ability to summon a skeleton which is worse than useless when you've got goblins constantly throwing fireballs at you.

Pick a spell and it says something like 'sorcery 25% on self for 10 seconds' - what the FUCK DOES THAT MEAN? The game hasn't explained it. It's both confusing and frustrating.

To cut a long story short I picked up a few alchemy things from a mages guild, became 'over-encumbered', couldn't move, turned the PS3 off and punched a fucking cushion.

I still want to buy Skyrim because the reviews say its awesome and it MIGHT be miles better than Oblivion, but then again the reviews all said Oblivion was awesome and I just don't get it.

i didnt like oblivion either, but man there is alot 2 enjoy in skyrim, the whole gaming experience is smooth the quests all intersect and there are so many different ways to play it. The scenery is top, realistic rocks and mountains. Immersion is high and you start playing it and you just waste hours messing about.

I started my own game today, as a Khajiit, did like one quest and then went to the thieves guild and joined them. Best thing about being a thief is you can pick pocket loads of gold and all the best stuff! I met a drunk guy on my travels and had a beer with him, he game me some gloves which give you plus 10 hand to hand, so with my cat claws i have a 25 damage strike on my hands which is better than any one handed weapon ive come across so far!

Other great thing about the pick pocket skill is that you can rinse trainers for leveling, just pay for the training then steal the money back! Everyone treats you like crap if you are a thief though and i stole something from an old woman's (Anise) hut in the middle of nowhere, and she sent some hired hands to do me in!

-- Fri Nov 18, 2011 2:11 am --

Any way you can find out if your follower died? I had one on doing a quest then I couldn't see him after the combat so buggered off.

I dont think they can die from what i've seen they just seem to kneel down for a bit then get back up.
Cheers, just need to remember what town he's from.

Anyone know a Sven? Where's he from? Hah.
sven is in the pub, in the virst village you go to, forgotten the name of the top of my head. think its River something or other
he is the one playing the music.

This sounds good. Is PS3 the best console to get to play this ? I'm new to this gaming lark. What GB sytem should I buy ?

if you have a good gaming PC/laptop, then go for it.

Best system is probably PC to be honest mate then the PS3/xbox 360 will follow behind..... The graphics are just outstanding on the PC version plus mods will allow you to change the games files which makes slight improvements on the graphics!

A gaming PC though will cost you a fair amount I built my own as its cheaper and that cost me a grand total of £1,100....

So if you like the easy affordable way out I'd go for a 40GB PS3 :-)

This game has taken over my life! 53 hours played and I still haven't done about the fourth stage of the main quest (the 7,000 step climb) because of the endless sidequests that my OCD keeps telling me to complete... only for more to be handed out!

BTW in answer to a question above, your followers CAN die - but only by your hand. Friendly fire can kill them but enemies can only knock them out. I bought a war dog and left him at home but he's gone missing now.

I was on it for hours last night I refuse to say what time I got off as I'll look a right sad twat!!

I've completed all Mage University quests so now I'm the Arch-Mage and most of my spells are fuckin bad ass!!

Now at Level 23.....

p.s Does anyone know what level you can progress to? I remember in Oblivion I think it went up to 100??

I'm level 6 just been to winterhold, stile a few good items and I'm trying to get to the greybeards, how the fuck do you get there?!?!?!

I've tried every possible way up that bastard mountain and I can't seem to make it up there its pudding me right off

Make your way to Invarstead into the town, then start climbing the steps up the mountain. You'll meet a couple of people along the road up, it takes about 10 mins to get up and a fight with an Ice troll or something. Did this bit last night, you get some cool "shouts" at the end of it, as well as a mission to the other side of the world which i've stuck on the back burner til I need to go over that way!

I love this game.

there isn't a hard level cap, but you can no longer level up once all of your skills get to level 100, which people say would be around level 80.

Quality!

I use to hate Fallout 3 where you'd get to Level 20 then you just stopped leveling up so you never got the full use of perks!!

I hate having to choose I'm no good at making choices!

I've used nearly all mine on destruction/one-hand or sneaking things. I've barely done any blacksmithing or alchemy in this game, I know how beneficial they both are but I can't be bothered walking around god knows where to find random ingredients to make a new dagger or something.

It'd be one thing if I knew where I could get certain ingredients or materials

"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" 11/11/11.

Just been speaking to my son about this ( he's on it loads) and he's on level 34

I've still not even visited all the cities and I'm level 22. I spent the last few hours trying to thin down my list of active quests but I'm picking them up at a rate faster than I'm finishing them lol.

I installed new textures for the horses before and they look miles better now. Still can't keep one for more than an hour though. I've lost count of the amount of horses that have been killed by dragons or just disappeared to be honest.

I'm loving it.

Got BF3, MW3 and this.

BF3 is great, MW3 is pants and Skyrim is superb.

I'm about level 20 now and have decided to stop with quests and go and search the whole map.

I have improved my blacksmithing to 100 and have all the perks, I can create Dragonplate Armor and make it into Legendary armor which gives me a 112 armor rating on the chest piece alone. It is DEFINITELY worth it.
