The European Kings of Debt

Don't we pay an annual lease fee to Manchester City Council? Once upon a time based on attendance and then it used to be £4m / annum, not sure if there's been some revaluation since then. Is that treated as accrual "without invoice"? Best asking one of the accountants on here for a better definition.

One of the takeaways from comparing the OP to Swiss’s, is the large increase in LCFC’s debt from zero to somewhere between £200m & £280m depending on the definition picked.

i wont lie, that's quite in depth.

any idea who or what 'other creditors' are? and what exactly the `accruals, where no invoice has been received` is? (where City seem to be very high up the list)
Accruals are where you have incurred a cost but you have not yet been invoiced for it. So say your water bill is sent at the end of each quarter. You would "accrue" for 1/3 of the expected costs each month so they show in your profit and loss account, that way your accounts are consistent month on month.

Other creditors could be anything, short term loan from owners possibly. Its a dumping ground for amounts owed which do not fit in the other categories.

Many of the lines on the balance sheet (due less than one year) will relate to "working capital" which are the funds which are used to run the business day-to-day. Generally these will move up and down as things are paid for and things are invoiced etc.

The "Debt" which is important is the long term debt. Like United's loans, Chelsea's 1.5bn they owed to Abramovic etc. However the ability to service that debt (i.e. pay the mortgage) is important to look at it.

So you might have a mortgage of £500k but if you are have enough spare cash to make the repayments each month comfortably and also have a nice lifestyle then the massive mortgage is not an issue. But if you have a mortgage of £50k but you are struggling to keep up repayments then the debt is a massive issue.

Why these tables don't always tell the whole story.

It's a finance lease so it's treated as a debt, with the amount based on the theoretical sum we'd have to pay over the whole life of the lease (which is 250 years I think). So in 2253 it'll be zero!
