I'm a blue and I have a confession - I have no natural affiliation to Manchester.

My father was not a great footbal fan and I have no geographical link to a team as I've always lived in the heart of Kent. I enjoyed football when I was young - especially watching United lose - but I didn't follow a particular team.

I've followed City since university, nearly six years ago, when my friends decided I need a specific team. Enter City! I watched from afar, bought the shirts and finally, when I had a full time job and could afford it bought my first season ticket this year.

I'm onboard for this rollercoaster and the derby is hugely important to me. But I will probably always feel something slightly hollow in not being from Manchester...

The exception that makes the rule.

You are part of the City 'family' ..... you belong , and that's all that matters .......... once you start following this particular club , following any other just isn't the same!

Maybe hollow was too strong but I think you understand my point. Anyway, I'll always be proud!

Just move to manchester, that'll complete you. We're much nicer than the crowd in Kent anyway.
The thought has crossed my mind. For now I'll stay put with my job but I'm still young and there is time.

I don't think that matters, cdc. The football club and the City aren't the same thing. You don't have to live here or identify with the place to support City, It's the rag glory hunters and plastics that we don't like.
Cheers, Pam.

As someone said to me at the last derby, "City is a drug, its an addiction!"

And we are the obsessed ones, lol. Why are you on here? Why are you not on your own forum? I was sticking up for the rags or rather "away" support but fuck it, you are not in Manchester and never have been (someone dig out the boundry proof and stats please). Now jog on please, see you at the match tomorrow eh.... Oh wait!

Oh no. I've been caught. I support United despite the fact that I want a City win tomorrow. I also follow my beloved Manchester United by turning up to Dens Park every Saturday. Get a grip, just because I post something that doesn't make United fans out to be complete pricks doesn't mean I like them. I'm in Scotland anyway so run along and dig up your facts, it'll mean absolutely nothing as in the Premier league I support Arsenal anyway, born in London and down every summer for Emirates Cup.

Soooo Like I say why are you on here if you dont even support us? And I will say again just for you, where did I slag any united fans off or anyone from outside of Manchester? I didnt you fool. Like I said they aint from Manchester anyway so get it right first yeh. Plus you must be so proud that you get to one game every season too! ffs why do these people bother us? I have a bloke who sits near me who travels from France EVERY game no matter what, no excuses he pays £40 to fly to Liverpool and stays at a mates house... So whats your excuse?

I support a 1st division club which blows promotion every season more and my excuse is I can't be at two places at once?

Well at least you have an excuse then ;0) the rags dont and thats the point. It's not where you're from but who you support (as long as it's for the right reason and not just glory hunting like they do).

Okay, we can agree on that. :D

And if a "Manchester" United supporter were to post that then it would mean they are a glory hunter and shouldn't support the team.

Not really, we haven't won anything for donkeys years and the OP
has supported City for six years, hardly glory years were they ?

The plastics only attached themselves to the scum on the back
of a plane crash and a sellout in the early 90's. Big difference.

In your opinion... I have never said such a thing so dont tar me with the same brush thanks! But your argument is flawed as there is no such team as "Manchester United" so.

Trafford and Manchester are CLEARLY two separate areas. you may as well call them Bolton United or Wigan United. It's a bit sad really. The OP is making the point that he feels a bit hollow at matches as he isn't a local lad.

We are pointing out that he chose a team that spoke to his heart and is every bit a blue as the rest of us. Plastic Rags ARE different however as the majority of their fans are from shit holes around the country who never had a decent team of there own and so decided to hop on the most successful team around for an easy time. Pathetic.

Fuck knows who you support. but you should know this.

I'm a yank and nobody in my family has ever watched a "soccer game". I picked City because I love Ricky Hatton and have been addicted ever since. It's 1:00am right now and I cant sleep, the game starts in less than seven hours.

I hate every one of the scumbag United supporters, their coaches and their players. I'll be watching on a 65" HDTV and screaming like a madman.

I don't know if I'd be a better fan if I were a Manc but if I were it wouldn't be by much.

-- Sat Apr 17, 2010 1:04 am --

The proof of this theory isn't far away, United is going to falter and then you'll see their fanbase move on to greener (or probably bluer) pastures. I just hope that former scum don't expect a warm welcoming when they "see the light". Let them go support Spurs or someone else.

It too have no natural affiliation with Manchester. I picked City 'cos the away following at Villa Park in April '90 looked awesome from the Holte End. And afterwards loads of flared jeans and Reni hats. And I went the year after and David White scored four and that was it, I was hooked.

There is a tenuous link with City, very tenuous... my dad signed schoolboy forms with Villa in the early sixties ('63 I think) and Joe Mercer visited him and my Nan and Grandad at their house in Walsall.

I did some writing for KotK fanzine, they were a great bunch, most welcoming and not at all bothered about where I came from. If anybody accuses me of glory hunting I shall retort that there aint no glory in watching Gareth Taylor struggling for form, or seeing Richard Edghill booed by his own supporters.

And as for today, COME ON CITY!!!
