The first time

With my eyes at the game and on tv I see progress in the way we play. We played well yesterday, played well at villa but we still lost.

The stats tell a different story as we are doing no better this year under Mancini than last and I can't understand why. We are definately lacking something but I can't pinpoint it.

I think missing balotelli for most of the season hasn't helped but other clubs can point to injuries too.

Despite our good overall defensibe record, We still seem prone to giving goals away from nothing. Uniteds first yesterday, brums 1st and 2nd, wolves 2nd and 3rd, leicesters 2nd, countys first. This doesn't seem to affect other clubs at the top as much.

it's alright dominating possession, but you got to hurt them.Best performance from an away team at Old Trafford in my memory,Liverpool a couple of years back. They tore them to shreds that day and could have scored 6.I think a match fit Balotelli would have given them a torrid time yesterday,as Torres always used to.

They were very impressive that day, I couldn't believe they won there 4-1.

I thought we needed Dzeko on at half-time because we weren't making enough clear cut chances (and needed more of a presence in the final third) despite looking more than comfortable and you've got to make possession count. That said the margins are fine and as someone else said had Silva converted that one it may well have been a different story.

The only real gripes i've had about RM this season were the tactics in the home derby (precisely because I thought we would lose away) and taking Adebayor off for Zabaleta at Molineux - I think by and large apart from that he's done very well.

I'm hoping it's just time together as a team.

You are the like the old 'simon23'....good post by the new one.

A great effort from RM and the players yesterday. Let's make this sort of domination of the ball the standard from now on.

Well said Simon. Haven't always agreed with what you say but you've hit the nail right on the head there.

It would be foolish for anyone to think all is rosy in the garden; we have far too many problems for that. However, I really feel sorry for those that can't see what Mancini is trying to do with us and can't appreciate what he brings. I've waited 28 years to see City play such controlled football with endless amounts of skill and composure whilst being so comfortable at the back. The balance is almost there now, it's been a while coming but we're getting it. Yesterday was a fantastic performance and needs to be the benchmark for the big games in the future.

There are problems though. Constant changing of the back 4, Milner and Barry starting too many games, Dzeko and Tevez struggling to gel, no replacement for De Jong when he's out, not enough goals from the midfield etc. As much as we've spent we still need, at the very least, a centre and a midfielder who can pass, defend, run and attack (there are not as many of these around as you'd think!).

Richards has come on in leaps and bounds recently. Long may it continue.

I have been a huge critic of RM's tactics over the last season and a bit, but yesterday he changed my mind.

I have NEVER seen a team dominate utd at old trafford like we did for periods of the game! I was actually shocked by it. The game will be remembered for rooneys goal (and it was a great goal), but what should not be overlooked is the way we played.

If balo had of been fit and on the pitch it would have been a very different game, We didnt create that many chances but in games like that no one does. But the way we controlled the game for long periods was something to be really proud of.

There are some things to still iron out....milner for one doesnt do it for me at all...and im worried about dzeko as well as he looks out of place (but it could take him a while to adjust). But the rest of the team are starting to look very very good

The change in Richards is unbelievable...before he was just an athlete, now he is a footballer....evra (who i rate as possibly the best leftback in the world) was completely on the back foot against richards. Yaya and silva...what a combination.....when yaya runs from deep he is almost unstoppable....and silva should have been man of the match...the guy is a god in human form on a football pitch. Kompany - the guy just oozes class...tevez - has there ever been someone who works harder on a football pitch....??? swp? im sure if you cut him his blood would be blue!!!! some of his turns yesterday were rightout of the old swp book!!!

That defeat did more to convince me of we are going in the right direction than any of the victories we have had under RM...

Really well said, I totally agree and I am more convinced than ever we can go anywhere, compete, and get a result.....the hurt from yesterday is still there though and will take a long time to go.
