A couple of blasts from the past which I remember.

The Opal Toffees picture isn't how I remember the wrapper. It was brown on white, in similar fashion to the Opal Mints wrapper being green on white, but I can't find a photo of it anywhere.

I don't think either were around for very long, and the toffees were definately short lived, but both flavours were, as I recall, very pleasant.
Reminds me of my chant from the Falklands war:
“Exocet, made to make your mouth water.”

Remember these ? Collecting cards that came in a packet with a rectangular piece of chewing gum that smelt beautiful.

Look at the art work on this. Not AI generated, someone actually had to draw that. And the subjects of the cards were not only historical but captured the subject matter in all it's gory detail, no age restrictions, and didn't require "readers should be aware that the contents of these cards may be disturbing...." etc.

They came with reproduction dollar bills in various denominations which we also collected.

My brother will be 70 this year, and has the complete set of cards including the dollar notes.

They also did "Mars Attacks" cards and "Man form UNCLE" and others I can't remember.
I remember the US Civil War cards.
A potted history of the event would be on the back.
Very educational they were.

What ever happened to Kwik Save, used to be 1 on civic in wythenshawe, and 1 in Northenden, think there were several others as well
where you can be fair to your family and your purse

one in Stalybridge sometime around the 80's, last century version of Aldi :)

I remember Opal Mints being around for my entire childhood, before becoming Pacers.

All the lads used to buy the mints, whilst all the girls seemed to prefer Opal Fruits. Actually, as I type, I can almost taste the strawberry one :-) .

This simple, throwaway phrase is a perfect example of the dangers of this thread:

So evocative - I've just wasted 15 minutes, transported back in time to another life free of mortgages and body parts feeling like they're about to drop off.

Also - even though I couldn't be happier with my wonderful partner of 45 years - a little bit of ' I wonder where she is now...' :-l

I just hope whoever devised this thread is happy :-)
