The FOC thread.

Does anyone remember national conscription?
My oldest brother (RIP) copped for it, 2 years at Leamington spa.
My other brother, 2 years younger didn't.

Who can remember their mother's Co-op divi number? 111389......
16198.

It was either at the Co-op at the bottom of Grove Lane in Hale that is now a funeral directors, or in the shop opposite my infant school in Hale Barns, which has been a Chinese restaurant for the last 40 years or so, The Cherry Tree.

We used to go in there on a Monday morning if my mum didn't have a half crown to give me for my dinner money for the week ahead, so she bought a few things and asked for the coin in the change.

I asked the girl on the till why she was so fat one morning. Mum gave me one of those looks that only a mother can.

Ours was in Didsbury where Expo is now. There was a general store and a butcher’s next door from memory. My mother and father met at a dance at the ballroom on the top floor.

Bob a job week... That was for wimpy kids in the Boy Sprouts.

I was in the Boys Brigade. We were highly trained and ready to go to war at a moments notice, to run around battlefields carrying essential medical items for wounded soldiers.

We didn't have time for 'bob a job'. We were the SAS of kids' activities.

I did the Sea Scouts in Altrincham because I loved the uniform :)

When I said "Did the Sea Scouts" I mean I was in it, not that I did them.

Yes, my bro missed it by one year. Much relieved.
It is often cited as a cure for feral youths as if the army actually wanted tearaways to whitewash their coal.
