I like the idea that every reporter stood in the rain and cold doing their bit to camera is really a cynic and the minute that red light goes off they just give vent to their feelings then click back into broadcast mode when the light comes back on ha ha

Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge on The Day Today was a master of the genre over 20 years ago.

Partridge was more a blunderer I think of him as a sort of Gerald Sinstadt character - local wanting to be big time but ineffective. I like to think that Pie is more like a Paxo type but who yearns to make it to the big time so is all bitter and twisted - similar idea but different characters. The best political / media character on TV has to be Malcolm Tucker.

The problem with long clips like these is you need to start by pointing out the humorous places otherwise one ends up wondering why the audience is laughing and you're not.

I quite like him but I think recently it's become more of a rant fest and he's forgotten to put the jokes in. He's getting shared because people agree with him more than because he's funny.

It’s not that I find him funny( I do btw). I find I agree with almost everything he says.
