So, shall we go back to being shite? No thanks I prefer the 21st century ride than losing at York.

I spend loads of time with City fans, friends, family, people on European trips etc. It's the same people it always was, with exactly the same outlook. NEarly everyone around me in my seat has been there for years. There are a few foreigners with cameras at games, but they are just passengers.

The most popular games might be the same old faces but the away games we're struggling to sell out are full of new faces, Norwich was shocking, I've never heard so many "supporters" use the words "wanker" and "c**t" towards our own players.

thats not new at all, christ u should have heard it at maine rd, espec kippax the abuse some players used to get, plus its heat of moment/passion i was forever screaming at our players, still do now, though we not shit any more. abusing own players will always happen if a fan/fans think was a shit performance or laziness. its just not accepted as much these days

I First started going to watch City when I was 11 years old in season 75/76, 39 seasons ago now and I've had a season ticket for around 35 years.
I supported City because it was 'in my blood', with my mothers side of the family originating from Denton and my Dad from Hyde, although my Dad was a closet Red until he took over my late father in laws season ticket 11 years ago, he's now City mad, but does wonder why the rest of us put up with mediocrity for so long).
I started following City because they were the only team I cared about, knew about, heard about and indeed, wanted to follow.
I can't for the life of me, at the age of 51, believe that I would become arrogant or ignorant of other clubs success, or lack of it, in fact I don't want to become that and I expect many other City fans would be the same.
'New fans' may be different. We will always attract new fans, weather successful or otherwise, from a young age and later in life. If these new fans or other longer term fans choose to become ignorant etc., then so be it.
I can die a happy man, knowing I've seen 'my team' compete at the highest level and win trophies recently, it hasn't changed my attitude to others, nor will I swan around gloating at others less privileged. I am a Man City fan, I am well weathered in the art of feeling content with my lot in life, and that includes watching shite football....., when it was shite. I'm no different now with our recent success, nor will I be if we win 20 trophies in the next 15 years, become the richest club in the world and have 10 billion fans across the Universe
I'm just loving it for what it is and don't give a crap if it all goes tit's up...................................Bye

Fans are always going on about this type of stuff.

Far too much shite is talked about what a virtue being shit was, and how we our fans were all some sort of football elite. In the main we were just clutching at straws, and embracing a bit of gallows humour because we had nothing else to embrace.
Totally agree, DD. As you said once, being shit, is shit.

And you're right about the core support too. Go to any Euro away and most domestic aways and it's the same hardcore as there's been for years.

You notice a bit of a difference at ECL home and London Premier League aways, but London aways have always had a slightly different mix of supporters due to the number of professional ex-pats in the capital.

-- 10 Feb 2014, 14:40 --

I take it you never saw Nicky Summerbee play for City.

I reckon in the 97/98 season you barely heard any words other than **** or wanker to describe our players at away matches.

nothing wrong with expanding the fan base, you have to remember that 99% of fans will not be season ticket holders and raraely even go to a game....thats not a criticism, just a fact as they will be geographically spread out. without expanding the followship into these pockets of fans, we will not be a force for eyars to come as you suggest, sa we will not be a commercial powerhouse, which in todays game is critical to success.

the more the merrier i say.

Will we have hoverboards?

Almost certainly and we will look like this.

Note the large testicles, that's how people will be able to tell us apart from the tiny testicled united fans.

That looks just like someone that was on TV (Coronation St I think?) Don't know the name but had massive jowls
