The General Election Thread

not every tory is a supercilious thatcher-loving peasant-bashing self-aggrandising sarcastic snidey and nasty individual: to claim that that is true would be unfair to the handful that aren't.
The level of personal attacks and insults in this thread has far surpassed the previous block-busters like the Hughes and Mancini spats, but then again they were only about football/City, whereas this is about two sides with grave differences. At least, no-one has come out with the bollocks that " We are all blues together and can enjoy a pint together", How could that happen when the two sides thoroughly despise everything each other stands for? As an infamous socialist once said " Not in my life time"
Perhaps the most depressing thing about the thread is how successful the media have been with their right-wing propaganda, demonising the aged, the poor, the infirm, the jobless, the tragic people with learning difficulties, and at the same ignoring the exploitation of them. Glib phrases concocted at tory hq, embellished and sharpened by the likes of Dacre and murdoch's poison factory are then quoted as facts, shirkers versus strivers being a case in point, Goebbels would have been proud of that.
A tory party political broadcast is an exercise in subterfuge and bribery, in cheap shots at the opposition, in personal insults. After 400 years of robbing the public to featherbed the rich and powerful, what more is there to say?. It's what they do, it's what they stand for, always have, always do.

Did you give that a once over before posting? I'll go for a resounding 'no'.

Let's get one or two things clear.

This is primarily a football forum and encompasses people from all walks of life, creeds, colours, religions and from all shades of the political spectrum. As long as people abide by the Code of Conduct they are free to post their views and opinions. If they breach the CoC, they face sanctions up to and including a permanent ban.

You are free to decide whether to post on here or not and if you decide not to bother, no one will stop you if that's what you want. If you want to join other forums and post on them, you're free to do so.

No one has been hounded off here or banned because of their politics, unless these were so extreme that they expressed views on here that breached the CoC. So we've banned some people who expressed views they'd cut and pasted from far right wing, anti-semitic or Islamophobic websites.

Some users felt they were denied "freedom of speech" on here and went elsewhere. That's their choice. Some chose to join them who'd been banned from here for persistent or serious CoC violations. No problem with that as it's a free country. As "The Pound Shop Gordon Gecko" (aka SWP's Back) said so succinctly, that gave them the chance to express views that our CoC forbids. If that's what they want then fine. But some of them chose to be extremely abusive on this forum to posters on here who were of different ethnic backgrounds, religions, disabled, which none of you have really seen as we've mopped it all up. Not surprisingly that left no choice but to ban them.

Not because they were left wing, anti-Israel, muffin-ites, Mancini fan-boys, preferred 4-4-2, liked Morrissey or any other reason other than they broke the CoC by failing to respect other users.
With all due respect pb,that is horseshit. People have been banned because of their political persuasion, people have been treated very differently to others because of their political persuasion. If this forum lurches any further to the right you will have nigel farage joining in.
I get that there are extremes who cross the line but a group of people from one end of the political spectrum all deciding to leave should ring alarm bells,it hasnt so that will do for me.

1. Nobody has ever been banned because of the political persuasions. You see, this is one of these areas where you have absolutely no idea what people have been banned for but you're talking to two people who actually do. And they're telling you that you're wrong. And you're so arrogant that you think you even have an argument here despite literally having no knowledge and talking to people who have specific knowledge.

2. We have loads of left wingers on here which is why this thread is 450 pages long. In fact we get as much complaining about the amount of left wingers as we do the amount of right wingers, coincidentally from people on the opposite side of the spectrum politically.

3. You said you're leaving. Why are you still here?

I'm afraid I've got to agree with Blue Cigar. The lurch rightwards on this forum is thoroughly depressing, especially when you consider the absolute bile with which certain posters express their views, particularly against any poor sod who finds themselves in receipt of benefits, or anybody who happens to work in the public sector. Chav scum, scroungers, lazy bastards are a few of the kinder ways some use to describe their fellow human beings. They do it increasingly on here because they know they can get away with it, it's safe to do so - shit, it's almost expected.

That some on here feel they can be so virulently right wing is, I'm afraid, as a direct consequence of the departure of a large number of articulate and forthright posters from the left who, it seemed to me, all disappeared around the time that Israel was carpet-bombing the Palestinians.

What we're left with is quite a nasty, hateful forum where views that people would not dare express on the street or in the workplace are now the norm. Very, very sad.

Eeerrr your wrong as regards Blues of Right and Left not being able to have a pint together, Rascal is a raving leftie and i'm right wing but we had a pint and a laugh together at one of the bluemoon piss ups a few years ago, I didn't see lefties and righties rolling around the floor of The Crown and Anchor with their hands around each others throats either, some were rolling around pissed but not in anger!

I can assure you that you're talking complete rubbish my friend. But you believe what you want (or what your new friends tell you). If you knew Ric, you'd know that he simply wouldn't countenance banning people for their genuine political beliefs.

And here we come to the root of the issue.

Being virulently right wing is not against the rules of this forum. We're not here to ban things that you dislike or even things that we dislike. For all the "but muh freedom" stuff that people come out with, this is what it boils down to.

Those "articulate and forthright posters from the left" were generally banned for anti-Semitism or consistently breaking the rules of the forum. Now they mainly spend their time bullying disabled people and talking about how much they hate here if my PM box is anything to go by.

Nobody was banned for political views. It would be pretty stupid for me to ban people for holding political views which I hold myself wouldn't it?

Views aren't the issue. The way which people express those views is absolutely the issue.

The mods are almost all left wingers.

The owner of the board was rejected by Baader-Meinhoff for being too left wing.

This is why I dislike the use of "right wing/left wing", it's nothing but a tool to bash someone you disagree with because the user either doesn't have the intellect, nous, patience, eloquence and/or open-mindedness to have a reasonable discussion about it.

"There's a lurch to the right because the people who criticised Israel's foreign policy have been banned"...well I'm still here for one, and I wouldn't consider myself either left wing or right wing. Yet the posters who are the most vociferous Tory or UKIP supporters aren't really the defenders of Israeli foreign policy, the defenders are largely the couple of mods and some other less notable posters, certainly in the context of those who got themselves into trouble.

There's so many broad strokes going on in generalising users/viewpoints etc. that you could paint a double yellow line all the way down the M62 to Hull in one swipe.
