Exactly.

He was building strawmans for the purpose of satire and a bunch of people took him seriously.

Essentially the Stephen Colbert of the politics section

Strawmans or not, the last paragraph tells us all we need to know. Constantly bangs on about divisiveness but is the most divisive member of the forum, picking arguments with anyone and everyone who dares to hold a different view to him and incredibly gets away with it time and time and time again for some strange reason.

He's posted that kind of stuff before, so I'm not having that satire nonsense. Christ, he even shoe horned a reference to Thatcher being a bitch into the Wills and Kate thread. Stephen Colbert my arse, more like Rick from The Young Ones.

Just seen on the BBC that the Speaker of the House is standing unopposed by the other major parties. It appears that the Greens and UKIP are the main threat to Jon Bercow. Democracy my arse. As the UKIP bloke just said, a cosy stitch up by the 3 major parties.

He does argue his point as he's pretty emotional about his political views, but I don't think I've ever seen Rascal get abusive or personal (or if he does, I'll bet it's in retaliation), so I'm not sure what he gets away with.

That's the tradition. e.g. Betty Boothroyd didn't face a LibDem or Tory opponent in the 1997 election.

Anecdotes.

The right wingers friend.

They know somebody through facebook who has a 3000ft telly and spends all there money on special brew and weed. The crippled guy next door was seen walking and the mental c**t over the raod managed to buy himself a loaf....which means they are FIT FOR WORK and must not take anymore of our money. There is a woman on our street who has 23 kids from 56 different dads and they are not tories so punish them by starving them. Starve the children of the poor because they will never be tories. They will never buy into what you right wing fucking idiots believe is right. thay have no choice.

Anecdote

I saw a guy having a fag today and it screamed at me that the fucker is a benefit scrounger. How dare he smoke and perhaps visit a foodbank cos he is starving. Its just fucking wrong.

Anecdote

I saw a wog/darkie/muslim/gollywog/irish/ not one of us English people in the street today and he obviously wanted to be a terrorist because just look he is different.

Anecdote

I had a beer today with a couple of friends of mine who are lesbian. They love each other and have been a couple for 20 years now but still there are c**ts who tut and moan and say i dnt want to be in a pub with those sorts......those sorts...those sorts.....FFS

Anecdote

Gordy is a tory, he has always voted tory, he is the epitome of Thatchers dream world. I like him lots he is a decent honest hard working man but his wife is very ill and he cant understand why the premise of cradle to grave socialism does not extend to his wife. She will die soon and she will die because the Tories dont care about us who have little and the system as it stands leaves him alone because of austerity cuts

Anecdote

My friend Lisa has MS, she is a grafter, she works hard but she needs help to work. .................the help that IDS promised in helping working familes. Because she can walk 20 yards she will lose her car. she will be a burden on you taxpaying righteous twats because she can walk 20 yards. She will lose her job because of her MS she cannot use Public transport....and this girl is so good at what she doesit beggars belief at the idoicy behind that thinking.

Anecdote

A c**t on the next street to me is an allright fella but he is a racist fuckwit.. he is 70 mind and thinks its ok to say to young black girls hello "coon"

I love BM and its been a big part of my life and i have met many good people on here but it has now become a sort of board that is EDL/facist obessed anti muslim anti non english joke.

"I've got all you <insert type of person here> figured out, you're all the same, you all <insert behaviour or action here>".

Bit like the way racists think.

Oh, he does mate - called plenty of people a **** and whatnot when it's largely unwarranted. I'd be more inclined to class his ramblings as anger rather than emotional.

Anyway, the notion that this forum is something akin to an EDL/BNP forum these days is downright ridiculous and a slur on the many decent posters of all political persuasions.

He was pissed, is probably more accurate.

In that case it'll probably be close to lunchtime before he makes an appearance on here!

Like most people on here I would've been in work for around 5 hours when he gets up, someone needs to pay for his ale.

Prepare for a volley of abuse once he's read that!

So election night, will it be the BBC, ITV or Sky news?
As much as the self-important BBC gets on my tits, it's by far and away the best on election nights.

... and in other news, the pot today raised eyebrows by criticising the increasingly dark hue of the kettle.

This.

Now we've all taken the piss out of Rasc, back to serious matters.

Here's another graph, showing relative real (i.e. adjusted for inflation) GDP per capita from 2005 to Q3 2014, based on the position at Q1 2005.

Real-GDP-per-capita-rich-countries-via-RBA.png

As you can see, our relative position has worsened compared to the non-European economies, all of which have returned to or passed the levels they showed pre-2008. There are three ways of measuring GDP - industrial output, expenditure and incomes - and that graph shows why the UK economy is (just about) in growth but people aren't feeling that and industry isn't producing enough.

You need to factor in the euro area as our major trade partner. The GDP slump is clearly related to the aftershock in euro land of the global crash. Our growth out of that slump compared to the other EU economies is a direct result of the austerity policy

And you need to consider what was funding the high gdp pre slump. It was funded by government spending that was out of control.

How does the decades long contracts that the Labour government committed the country to with the massive PFI deals impact that?

The biggest issue that I have with Labour is that I witnessed first hand many major PFI projects (I was the lead consultant on most I worked on) - some of them multi-£billion that locked the UK into payments for decades even though there were far better funding options available. This was done with the sole (and callous) intention of affecting their balance sheet treatment.

This must have seriously hamstrung the last government in where cuts in spending could be made

No it wasn't out of control. It was a constant percentage of GDP. You can certainly argue that debt should have been reduced but it wasn't out of control.

There are 2 types of Tory voters

a) the very wealthy
b) the woefully misinformed

Group a) is largely responsible for the existence of b).

Have to agree that many people aren't feeling this "recovery" particularly much. On a business level, the industry I work in isn't exactly booming and on a personal level I've been making savings all over the place since the 2008 crash that I wouldn't have given a second thought to previously. Many others have done and are doing the same. These days switching energy suppliers on a regular basis is becoming ever more popular amongst consumers. Much of my food shopping is now done at Aldi and while they don't have the same range of products that Tesco have, you can get a decent chunk of it from Aldi and supplement it with purchases from Tesco/Asda. I found out a year or so ago that I was vastly overpaying on my buildings insurance and am now saving over £40 a month on that.
