Slightly healthier late morning brekkie i made at the weekend:

1 tbsp olive oil
2 red onions , chopped
1 red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
1 garlic clove , sliced
small bunch coriander , stalks and leaves chopped separately
2 400g cans cherry tomatoes
1 tsp caster sugar
4 eggs
Chorizo Sausage
Mushrooms

Heat the oil in a frying pan that has a lid, then soften the mushrooms, chorizo, onions, chilli, garlic and coriander stalks for 5 mins until soft. Stir in the tomatoes and sugar, then bubble for 8-10 mins until thick. Can be frozen for 1 month.
Using the back of a large spoon, make 4 dips in the sauce, then crack an egg into each one. Put a lid on the pan, then cook over a low heat for 6-8 mins, until the eggs are done to your liking. Scatter with the coriander leaves and serve with crusty bread.

Is that you Gordon?

What goes into your ideal breakfast? Pick from the list.

Fried eggs
Back Bacon
Breakfast Banger
Lorne sausage
Beans
Tomatoes
Hash Browns
Black Pudding
White Pudding
Bubble and squeak
Mushrooms
Fried Bread
Toast
saute potatoes
Chips
Onion Rings
Potato cake

Think I've covered everything.

2 eggs 2 sausage 2 bacon 2 hash browns tomatoes and beans for me. toast and a mug of coffee.

Think I'd go with the following:

2 Fried Eggs
2 Bacon
2 Bangers
Beans
Tomatoes
1 Fried Bread
1 Toast with butter
and a potato cake to top it off.

Couple of points:
1. Who has bubble & squeak with their breakfast?!
2. Can't understand the mushrooms, they just don't go for me. They belong in a bolognese.
3. Eggs have to be runny.

Oh, and up here in the Lowlands they call potato cakes 'potato scones'. Sacrilegious bastards! I knew when I came to live up here that there would be some surprises but... fuck me.

The Two Commandments:

1) Thou shalt not hath beans and egg on the same plate

2) Thou shalt not sully thy breakfast with the devil's sputum that is sauce of either red or brown variety, nor condiment.

Rubbish!

I have eggs, beans and brown sauce on the same plate, I wouldn't even touch a fried breakfast without brown sauce!

Re: The Great British Fry-up

4 bacon, 4 sausage, 4 fried eggs, 2 hash browns, fried bread, tin' tomatoes, beans, black pudding, mushrooms, 2 toast and 2 bread (heavily buttered) to mop up with and a tea, brown sauce.

Not bad except tin tomatoes are a no go in my book. Not right at all.
