The great queue of '99

I flew over from Australia the day we where playing the semi. Had no idea wether we where in the final and no ticket even if we had. Arrived to find out we where going to Wembley and a mates mate had secured a ticket for me...... Certainly wasn't worried about queues.

isnt this new technology boring, we wont be talking about queing around Coms in 10 yrs time..

If City ever reach Istanbul, you can guarantee we'll be queuing on the phone for 10 hours instead.

Got to the ground at 5am, walked away with me tickets at 12!! was well worth it! God help us if we get to the UEFA cup final.

Took a day off from work to phone up on the Monday - took me till early afternoon to get through!
Then had to take another day off to drive up from Surrey to queue up for hours for my ticket!

At least I didn't have far to go to get to Wembley

No compaints though - would do it all again tomorrow.

Don't remember what time I got there but know it took about 10-12 hours in total. Pretty sure it was fairly early morning, although I was a student then, so that probably means about 11.30am!!

My memory of it isn't great but hadn't the rags just won the Champions League (or the final was coming up that week)? I remember being bored and walking to one of the shops to get a few papers for me and my mates. Got them back to the queue and each one had about 10 pages dedicated to the rags. Sickening. So we didn't bother reading them and just had a ceremonial bonfire outside the Kippax/North Stand corner instead!

I also remember there being some young local lads off the estate riding around on BMXs offering to get food and beer from the shops for you (for a small fee of course). We took them up on the beer option and that's why the rest of the day is a bit of a blur!!!

Sent a mate. He told me that he joined the back of one queue which went from the TO round towards the Kippax. Took him about half an hour. It was only when he had the tickets and was walking back towards the Social Club where he'd parked that he noticed that there was a massive gap between the 'end' of the queue and then the start of another queue which must have gone round to the Kippax or (after reading these posts) into the ground? He felt well bad but not bad enough to give his tkts back and start again. Funny thing was that no-one said a word. Mind you he was a 6'6 squaddie and built like a brick shithouse......

My Dad got mine so didnt experience any queues at all. Didnt they go on sale to regular season ticket holders first (ie 5 years or more) though?

Nope. It was everybody all in one go (i.e. any season ticket holders and people with 10 or more ticket stubs)
