Best player this club EVER had, simple as that. And I've seen both.

COLIN BELL -------
Colin could play in THIS team. I"m not sure if Silva could play in THAT team.

I understood what you meant but, to be fair, if you take your post at face value it could have been read as ''ANY1aBLUE'' took it. A semicolon would have been the deal-clincher here!

;-)

Bell then Silva now......Football has changed drastically since then.

I think they are/were both brilliant players, but I don't think you can begin to compare them, completely different players.
But I have to disagree Sam, if you could put the king at his best into the current side, I think we would be almost unbeatable. I understand and agree about how much the game has changed, but I think Colin Bell could have played in any era.

Don't think you can discuss the greatest inside forward without discussing Peter Doherty in a Manchester City context although like most I never saw him play.

One of the olde boys is always waxing lyrical about Peter Doherty, seem to recall him saying he doubled up in a Toshak/Keegan manner with a winger called Billy Lineker....who's career finished prematurely (apparently).

It is a good debate when comparing modern day players to past players .
Obviously the older generation are going to favour the King and fair enough .
I'm 31 and never saw Bell play however comparing past and present players is near impossible given the difference in the overall standard of football .
How good would of Bell been if he had the modern day facilities on a day to day basis , the perfect pitches week in week out? Then on the flip side would he look as good with the standard of opponents in the current game.
I'm sure Bell was an outstanding player but it would be unfair to compare him to any modern day player .
One thing I do know and that is David Silva would walk into any side in the world in today's game , Barca included so we should count ourselves very lucky to have the privilege of watching him week in week out .

Silva is a great player but Colin Bell was a true giant. He was a freak of nature in that his resting heartbeat was only 44 beats a minute as oppose to most normal people's being 65-70.

He had absolutely everything and in todays game he would be worth 150 million..............he really was that good.
