The Greatest Show on Turf - Cheltenham festival 2024

If I fancy a day at the races I usually go midweek to one of the lesser courses just to stay away from the Saturday crowds . Thirsk , Ripon , Beverley and nice places to stay overnight . The racing may not be the best but most are there for the racing and not the piss up
Dead right give me an afternoon midweek meeting at a Warwick size course.

Would never dream of a big venue, that being said I'll probably end up at one this summer with that Treble Winner horse I've got shares in.

Anyone else get the feeling State Man will cause a major upset in the Champion Hurdle. Only been out once this year Constitution Hill, must have had major problems as it wins the non Cheltenham UK grade 1s at 60% and who doesn't like free money?

I’d have Royal Ascot over this every day of the week and twice on Sundays, just don’t get the hype tbh.

Dunno where that gut feeling came from but my State Man antepost bets suddenly golden tickets with the breaking news

I prefer the flat myself, but Cheltenham is the centrepiece of National Hunt racing and its a belting 4 days full of quality.

The clerk ruined Ascot last year throwing shitloads of water all over the course and the less I say about that shite round course they run the fillies race on the better.

Juddmonte International & Ebor Week and the Aidan O'Brien benefit at Chester in May are my favorites!

Lingfield is a nice track as well for a midweek meeting if you get a chance to visit.

Nice course, dead easy to get between the paddock and the stand and it’s mainly proper punters there during the week. I know the all weather isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it’s a good set up.
It certainly is. Went last year and enjoyed it. Know what you mean about the all-weather tracks, they seem to lack atmosphere for some reason. My biggest disappointment was Goodwood. For some reason I had built it up in my head as the premier flat racing track in England. It was nowhere near it.

Completely agree about Goodwood.

I was pretty shocked myself with the place as it’s put on a bit of a pedestal, particularly during the Festival, but I thought it was a bit down at heel when I went there and a nightmare to get around. I had four seconds as well so it was a bad day all round and I haven’t been back since.

I still think Ascot is my favourite, particularly before they built the new stand, and I was lucky enough to see Dubai Millennium win their in ‘99. I still think that was the most impressive horse I’ve seen to be honest.
