The Green Party

Billionaires are pretty few and far between (especially these days) - to listen to the far left you’d think there’s a billionaire on every street corner fucking people over ! It’s “billionaires this” and “billionaires that”.
Apparently the UK had 55 in 2024 (US$ billions) according to the Scotsman newspaper - left wing think-tank put the number at 156 but I always suspect data from dedicated activist organisations.
The reason they pay little tax is simple - our taxation system is designed around taxing earnings from employment, property, investments and capital gains. Companies can offset their taxation by investing in their business so a fast growing business pays often zero tax. Billionaires or the very wealthy pay themselves a notional salary (I think Bezos pays himself $80,000pa), they leverage their wealth by borrowing against assets and avoid selling assets which would crystallise CGT liabilities. Unfortunately I can’t speak from personal experience. I do agree with your point about nurses etc. Our taxation levels are ridiculously high but billionaires are not the cause nor the solution.
By the way, should any billionaires be reading this stout defence of their privilege, donations or gifts are always welcome.

A good beginning for a change of the political, financial system would be to understand so call "neo classical" economics model, the system used by every major country in the west, is fabulous bunkum!

They are one of the causes and one of the range of solutions, IMO.

Reminds me years ago of some rich bloke living in the Channel Islands who asked for suggestiions about who to leave his money to because he couldn't think of a worthy recipient.

Someone sent him a fiver with a note telling him to add it to his problems.

They are the personification of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Pretending they care about the environment and battling climate change, but spouting extremist policies. People who don’t follow politics probably think they are trying to get the country back to the happy days when we grew our own food without imported chemicals and helped each other out lending lawnmowers etc. But they are not like that at all.

We’ve had some bell end from the Greens basically trying to batter down our door this evening, I was down the pub but the Mrs text me saying it sounded like someone was literally breaking in. I ran back and found the ****, he was apologetic and said he didn’t mean to “sound threatening” haha. The twat was lucky I didn’t fucking fill him in.

Anyway I gave the **** more than two barrels and I doubt we’ll see this wanker again.

And for what it’s worth I told him my mrs he scared the shit out of actually votes green but I wouldn’t go near them in a million years and I’m a centrist Lib Dem/Labour voter.

Hope we have some **** from Reform next as I’m bang up for an argument with those idiots too.

Definitely happened.

I am surprised you had been down the pub before posting this.

To be fair Polanski did say that, it’s been everywhere, understandably.
You don't know what he means by without them though do you?

Clips posted by known reform bellends without context is pretty pointless. Its almost as if the poster who put it on here is just throwing shit due to bias or stupidity.

Heaven forbid.

The full bit of the podcast is below including the start, this is from MSN online that took it from the Independent, the mainstream press have picked it up too, not just Reform.

Talking about utopia and then not including people who disagree with him is troubling though, isn’t it? Even if he just means a society where those views aren’t accepted, rather than physically removing people once they get into power, it’s how you enforce that which is the problem.

My view is rather than being dangerous, I don’t think he actually realises how he sounds, I don’t think he’s anywhere near another Stalin, I just don’t think he’s a serious person that is clever enough to be coherent.

He added: 'Before we go into complete utopia – which I'm totally there for – there are people, though, who would identify as Right-wing, or indeed even far-Right.

'And no matter what humanity or community we put them in, they are set on destroying or pushing this toxicity.

'Do we think we can change their minds? Or is it a case of building a society that doesn't include them?'

He is not talking about people who merely disagree with him in my opinion but yet again there is no context to doing it without them. He doesnt say what he means by it so you or I cannot know.

At what point in a democracy do you feel you can push through with your vision and disregard the concerns of others?

We are as far away from that position as you can get at the moment. We are divided in all sorts of directions.

Im reasonably sure he doesnt mean throwing the far right into a hole in the ground though:-)

I’m sure he’ll get the opportunity to clarify what he meant. My guess is he’ll say he meant educating it out of people as children but I don’t think he meant that either.

When you have won an election, you can put forward your own political aims for parliament to vote on them, but the Human Rights Act still states those who have lost have freedom of expression. I doubt Polanski is wanting to repeal that, maybe he is I don’t know.

I don’t think he means literally killing people on the far right though, but his choice of language is still a concern. I think he sometimes says things that he thinks sound good but doesn’t realise how it comes across.

I don’t like the far right one bit, nor am I particularly a fan of his for different reasons, but my view of Britain still includes both sides having the right to say whatever they like, as long as they don’t directly incite violence. Our political system is based around an adversarial parliament after all.
