The Green Party

Not disputing he's adopting a populist approach but are you saying you consider Polanski and or the Green Party on the whole to be on the far left? I'd be interested to understand what policies or positions you think are 'far left'?

I'd be staggered if, for example, the Communist party thought his ideas on wealth redistribution such as they are, got even close to being left wing?

...and just like the far right, the far left dispute technicalities of why they're not far left.

Restore supporters and other nationalists think Reform aren't far right. Reform don't think they're far right. Does this mean Reform aren't pretty far right?

Sorry but that's a bizarre answer to a legitimate question. 'Far left' historically in this country has tended to mean Communism, Revolutionary Socialism etc with policies that seek to replace capitalism with an alternative system and form of economics.

I'm not aware the Green Party is planning to do any of that. Polanski has talked about borrowing from the markets for green investment, whether you think that's good or not it's hardly seeking to overthrow the system. He's also talked about fairly tame wealth taxes that would probably be derided as tinkering in the margins by what, certainly until recently, we've typically thought of as the left.

So, genuinely, what is it about the Green platform that is far left?

They're not far right. So they must be far left.
Same mindset for the other way round too.

Or you dont know what far left is:-)

Our political discourse is in the toilet these days. Polarisation and over simplification is rewarded and amplified in most arenas and we're led/herded by identify rather than policy. Everything is deemed a signifier of your tribe rather than an idea to be considered.

I'd be tempted to start the ALAR (Anti-Label Anti- Reductive) movement but it'd die on its arse because I'm no good at tiktok :-)

Politics is an embarrassing arena these days. It's more about memes and campaigning via misinformation and outrage (nothing new there) than ever before. Dumbed down to appeal to the worst elements of our nature. Everybody's angry and it's everyone else's fault.
An infinite loop of tribal pettiness.

Looks like Polanski coming under fire from his own party for his retweet about the Golders Green attack.

Former Deputy has said to not vote for them and the current Welsh Green Leader has called it “unacceptable”.

This is the retweet:

"Won't somebody please think of the attempted murderer anti-semite!?"

Read the fucking room, Zack, feckin' hell!

Polanski is not for me.

Some laudable aspirations from the Greens but run the country?

As ever, markets would dictate their lifespan and it would be very short as like it or not, they don’t fit with what our system seems to be acceptable.

As ever, you play within the system and nothing more and so far, only the Tories and Labour do that, even if it’s a choice of a shit sandwich with rad or blue sauce on it for the majority of us.

Polanski obviously thought he’d get the populist thumbs up by undermining the Police trying to control an extremely dangerous situation.

Just shows what his real politics are.
Happened on here too with some comments regarding the incident at Manchester Airport a while back.
Kind of went quiet after the full footage was shown.
Some people are very quick to try and deflect from the real issue.

He should be made aware in no uncertain terms that he is completely in the wrong, that knife attacker would be dead now if that incident had happened in the USA.

The police had to disarm him as he was not for dropping his weapon, mental problems he might have but the bloke was bloody dangerous.

I think the previous incarnation of the Greens as the Ecology party was fine and possibly commendable but the current version seems to be packed with antisemites kicked out of the Labour Party much like Reform seems to be packed with racists kicked out of the Tory party. Picking these populists leaders may get you the votes of the easily led but they are not serious candidates for leading the country (Please God).

The BBC interviewed 5 candidates standing in Southport about a week ago. Labour, Lib Dems, Tories and Reform all had policies about roads, shops, bike lanes etc. The woman representing the Green party wanted to build an ecological museum on the pier to educate school children no other policies put forward.
