The Hacienda - The Club That Shook The World - Sat BBC2 10.15pm - featuring me

Saw my first ever gig there, The Fall in ‘83. Even though we weren’t 18, never had any mither getting into gigs in those early days. The place was empty most of the time and they’d let anyone in. Last gig I saw there was World of Twist in 1990. IIRC this was around the time it was starting to take off as a rave club. Not my scene and never went in that period. As others have said, The Venue next door was far superior for us indie-types.

I remember it being the first club in town you could get in in jeans and trainers. Unless you count jillys.
First time I went in I was wearing a black pair of 501's, pair of Adidas Samba and a Stone Roses t-shirt I bought from Afflecks in the afternoon

yeah...was virtually empty with The Pogues in

Have I ever told the tale on here that I was an extra in 24 hour party people?
As mentioned above, the house shite said nothing to me about my life but I went to the filming of the Hacienda scenes for the film in a recreated set in a warehouse in Ancoats. I spent the evening people watching on the balcony and for about 10 mins went onto the dance floor (maybe I needed a piss?)
During that time I managed to get my mug in the film as Coogan passed next to me and then I ended up on the inside sleeve of the CD soundtrack!
Bottom left with grey Hoodie on.
I've been on Eggheads heads too.

I’ve heard this a lot from my mates who are solely into bands. They often say a drum machine and bleeps and clicks from a synthesiser isn’t proper music.

But I always try to explain house and techno to people who don’t like that sort of music, and try to convince them why it’s so good, as the strict rhythmic beat that gets us deep inside. The first musical instrument anyone will ever have started playing was the first person who started banging his chest or clapping his hands, the bumph bumph bumph bumph is tribal and built into us since the dawn of time. Before there were ever guitars, bass, pianos… there was the beat.

I bet we’ve been gathering around dancing to the 4x4 for over 100,000 years. Techno for me is primal!
