Horror films have become almost comedy now, the genre has been done to death.

If I watch a horror film now I go to the source of it all, you can't beat either a good hammer house of horror or the teenage slash type 80's movies for a good yarn that doesn't involve some kid running around a corridor in the obligatory white night dress.

After a narrow escape over four decades ago, Laurie Strode comes face-to-face with Michael Myers after he escapes from captivity. She must again confront her worst fears and put an end to his killing spree.

An American slasher film starring Jamie Lee Curtis in her iconic role.

Much prefer old school horror. Not much modern stuff is that mix of scary / enjoyable to me.

Pumpkinhead is one I want to rewatch soon..

The Void (2018)

Cloaked cult-like figures trap a police officer, staffers and patients inside a hospital that is a gateway to evil.

A Canadian indie horror film with practical SFX nodding furiously in the direction of John Carpenter's "The Thing"

Its affectionately known as the 'Babashite' amongst some horror fans.

The directors follow up film, The Nightingale (2018) is a horrifying gothic revenge drama set in the 1820's ouback.

Its like a grim version of The Last of the Mohicans (1992) which I absolutely adored.

Worthy a watch though?

The first one remains an absolute masterpiece.
Had relatively high hopes for this one but fell for the marketing unfortunately….

It's not that bad, actually. Way, way better than some of those that followed the original, at any rate. Looking forward to catching up with the new one sometime.

Worthy a watch though?

Its beautifully paced and choreographed (The Nightingale) but it can also be a punishing and brutal watch.

However, if you can get past the "controversial scene" and the casual racism of its time, then yep, it leaves an impression with you long after the film has finished.
