one of the worst films to win at the oscars

no not really, its brought forward a job that not many in the world would want to take on and shown how bloody brave if not a little mental you have to be to do this job.

i understand the reasons of it winning and glad that for once the oscar voters have gone for this kind of film.

It was a very low budget film which was filmed and presented well, that's why it won OSCARS- not because of names for once

spot on mate!

as good as avatar was as a film in which to switch off on and the multi millions that was spent on it,the hurt locker won because of the way in which it was made and what it brought forward to the audience for once.

a few bigwig hollywooders were not happy with this at all!

Indeed, Cameron was really pissed off that Bigelow won best film- anything to do with them being divorced?!!!
Thought Avatar was a boring version of Pochahontas !

Avatar was never about the story though, or at least I hope it wasn't!

I think the Hurt Locker is a far better film though, really, really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed The Hurt Locker myself. It took a while to get into but once it did I was hooked. I appreciated how unpatronising it was.
Furthermore, I don't know about anyone else, but it reminded me slightly of The Wire. How Sergeant William James is institutionalised by war. It gives him a reason to live and gives him a reason to die. I think that's displayed clearly in the final scenes when he returns to "normal" life. It means nothing for him. How it is difficult to adapt to a certain kind of life when you know only one kind of thing. And when you experience the intensity of disarming a bomb, knowing everything hangs in the balance, it can be difficult to comprehend or get used to any other kind of life.
