Just remember one thing:
The fact that our success comes from a rich benefactor rather than more 'organically' makes utd fans in particular hate it even more. It is making them even more bitter about it than they otherwise would be, which is fantastic.
I have come to realise that there is no point trying to engage in a debate with them pointing out that this was the only way that a big underachieving club like us, Everton or Villa could have hoped to have broken into the self-perpetuating cartel that was the 'sky 4'. Or that the way football's finances are structured is anti-competitive and that they were one of the main driving forces behind that, for their own naked self-interest. Or that revenue generation due to effective marketing of your club in Asia leading to a greater capacity to buy players and therefore success is, when you think about it, fuck all to do with sport and therefore an absurd basis upon which to allow success on the pitch to be dictated. All of these things demonstrate that football isn't fair in terms of how it is set up financially.
So you know what? I don't bother using these things to conduct an argument anymore. It's a waste of time. I just tell them how much I'm fucking loving it and how much pain they are going to endure seeing us dominate football for the next ten years.
It might not win you any argument but let's be honest that was never going to happen anyway. What it does is piss them off far, far more than trying to reason with them. And for me, that makes not winning the debate with them a price worth paying.
