Bit long winded but not so interesting facts about my early party years but I loved them and bored so shall type a little.
I started going to Ibiza partying so to speak in 1984 after stumbling over the place the year before on a family holiday at the tender age of 16. I what you could say fell in love with the whole place, the atmosphere and vibe was in my eyes amazing compared to back home in england with it's shite 80s music and went back again 4-5 times a year for weeks at a time, this was before house/dance music really started over here.
I partied with all sorts of wierd and wonderful people at amongst other places mainly,Es Paradis Amnesia,Glory's.Pacha and Ku (now called privilege)It was the first place I saw people go out dressed in all sorts of whacky costumes which included just full on body paint and back then it was something I couldn't believe when first setting eyes on it.
I was after many visits what you could call a party regular and friendly with loads of people there. When my spending money ran out which it did most times I would do all manner of stuff to get a few few quid.I was one of the first paid dancers getting up on the small platforms to get the crowds going when the first music tourist started flooding over, the first time I did it I was skint and had 2 weeks left of my stay so had to do something and a mate who worked the clubs said it was the only thing I was any good at although I think he was just doing me a favour, this was before certain drugs gave them that don't give a fuck feeling became popular.
I used to make extra money when skint taking people on what is now probably called bar crawls, mainly they were the yuppies of the day loaded and wanted to be part of some jet set celeb lifestyle and were desperate to mix with the wealthy and famous who visited the island.I'd take them to lesser known places that celebs where supposed to hang out before hitting clubs. There was hardly ever a celeb in sight,so if we went into some small bar and there was a good looking bloke or woman in there I'd say it was some spanish celeb and they would lap it up,I'd get free drinks in the bars and a few quid from the bar owners who I got to know.I'd then take them almost everytime into Ku and without queing which always looked good, this was for them to see a few faces and they'd instantly become a little starstruck and forget they'd been conned into going into some back street not so good bar that a few people I'd become mates with were running.
Back then Ku was the place to be seen and was full of celebs, pop stars and all manner of famous people who would turn up and mill around,Jean paul guiltier was there often and only mention him as one night he did attempt the chat and flirt with me the dirty old git,I was only 19 he must have been about 40 and me not being gay wasn't a good starting point but the drinks he was splashing all night out weren't turned away, anyway I was more interested in the young women who hung around his hangers on.
I've yet to visist anywhere that matched the amount of beutiful women compared to there at the time, obviously it was my appearances there at the time that flocked them there and not the rich and famous. Here I saw loads of things that these celbs got up to and at the parties afterwards the pictures would nowadays sell for a fortune.I could as they say right a book about the crazy lifestlye and nightlife of the people going out there in the late 80s and how the place changed to what it is today,it was a crazy but brilliant time.
I continued going for some years taking mates who most like me loved the place a few stayed on and still to this day, many with their own little buisnesses, bars, takeways, shops, hire places all manner of things for the tourist industry and most of them I persuaded to go out there just for the nightlife and it turned into a life changing thing for some of them.
I still went back up until a few years ago and still saw some of the same people from when I first went and got pissed on free drinks most nights and get thanked for first getting them to go out there, but I always say it's the island that really got them and me taking them there was just a small thing.
I'd come back after my first visits saying the music nightclub scene would go mental once it gets over to england but didn't realise how big it would really get over the next 20 years. It got quite popular didn't it :0)
