Fourth successive monthly decline of GDP.

Monthly GDP is now back at the level it was at in May. Same for services.

For some it will no doubt remain a mystery that when the Chancellor is misleadingly talking down the economy and the health of the public finances - all for selfish political gain - growth goes into reverse and consumers stop spending.

What a high price the economy is paying to keep two people in their jobs.

If Reeves had anything about her, anything at all, she'd resign.
 
I just don’t see where they expect growth to come from with the policies they are pursuing. You can’t simply speak growth into being. They need people with real business experience involved.

This is where politicians should be honest. Everything is fashioned in such a way as to blame the other parties and score political wins. The reality of the economy for most people though is that it's bleak and it has been bleak for a long time. Labour should have represented a change but the perception for most is nothing has changed nor will change.

I really don't think that this Labour government has long left. They didn't have a real mandate in the first place and they certainly haven't now. I think they'd do worse than the Tories if an election was held today and the Tories would do almost as bad as they did last year.

Trust has never been lower and they just do not inspire any confidence that they have any ability whatsoever to fix people's problems. This is why Reform will get in, a bunch of charlatan chancers, it just proves how little we think of our politicians.

I'm sure you're not naive enough to think ministers and their aides don't take advice from business owners, but let's look at a few high profile candidates that would fit your bill:

James Dyson who advocated Brexit and then took his company to Singapore?
Tim Martin of Wetherspoons who advocated Brexit and is now endlessly moaning he's lost loads of foreign staff?
Rees-Mogg who advocated Brexit and then moved the fund he manages to Dublin?
Tice who advocated Brexit and hates immigration who has now partly moved to Dubai, a city built on slave immigrant labour and a bit of Sharia law thrown in for good measure?
Jim Ratcliffe ,need I say more?

All canvassed for Brexit and therefore the likes of you and me to be worse off and then fucked off out of here. And you actually want the likes of that lot in charge?

I'm sure there must be some decent ones around, oh, actually the owner of Timpsons and Iceland come to mind as I type. Any more and I'm struggling.
 
I’ve no idea what advice they are taking, or from whom, but it’s not working. There are some fantastic people around who have grown their own businesses very successfully often in very challenging markets. They should be closer to the government.

You can add John “vulcan” Redwood to that list of traitors, he informed readers of his business column not to invest in Britain, this was straight after Brexit. Of course another Brexit shill.

No one with real business experience is quitting their highly paid job to take a pay cut and go into politics. If politicians were paid a top wage we might start getting top people. Instead we get a bunch of idiots.

It doesn’t take an expert to tell you that, even I had an inkling that it was going to take a while to get back on track. I’d bet that the late budget had a bit of an impact as well.

Any idea who you would go for? Remember they have to have the good of the country at heart, not their own business and bank account.

I'm sure some will try today, but we are now in the longest period with no small boat crossings for over 6 years.

The Guardian's annual charity appeal is for community groups working to bring hope not hate. Last Saturday it was trailed alongside a piece about 200 community groups describing Labour's proposed changes to asylum rules as "cruel" and "ruthless". But the main story was about one of the groups who will be supported by the appeal. I don't believe anywhere else paying the wages we do to ministers would get you an 'idiot'
