The Labour Government

Pensioners on £230 a week aren't rich yet those are what most on here agreed should suffer the loss.

Their focus groups are completely out of touch as well.
A very simple solution would have been..... if a pensioner pays higher rate tax then no WFA... if they dont pay higher rate tax then they get full allowance. It would have been very easy to implement and they would have been able to "test the water" and gauge the market.... really, really surprised they didn't implement a test change in this way.

It would have been difficult for those that stopped getting the WEA to complain.....

... still, we do have Rachel from accounts at the helm, so carry on,

You're assuming that the DWP Computers can interrogate the HMRC Computers ...... they cant.

It’s not an issue to me personally, as I’ve explained.

But I think it was a poor decision to remove the WFA - I didn’t agree with it, not least because of the known difficulties vulnerable pensioners face trying to access pension credit and other benefits. Plus the fact that something like the WFA decision should really have been in their manifesto.

Also, to be frank, I don’t really believe you haven’t seen any evidence of people on here defending the WFA cut and other poor decisions of late just because it was their side doing it.
The implementation was my issue, giving little time for those who were really affected to get their claims in. I did note a lot of advertising for pension credits, post the statement, but too little, too late, for me.

They’ll be some world class mental gymnastics on here if they do reverse it.

Yeah er but even though we said you know it was okay coz you know pensioners are dead rich like and those that aren't deserved to be cold coz of you know brexit(sniff) now I thunk bout it I have changed my mind coincidentally at the exact same time as Sir Keir like.

They could just be unavailable for comment though:-)

I'm assuming nothing, but I am certain it would not be beyond the wit of man for HMRC to produce a list of pensioners c/w MI numbers that pay higher rate tax and use/feed that data into the DWP to generate payments... but lets not get too far into solution mode..... it's pointless.

The implementation? What about the fact that Pension credit claimants are now better off than new state pensioners who have paid all their lives expecting to be looked after in old age. Better off being a druggy alcy paying fuck all.

Look at the figures and who can claim vs those who can't.

The rich can fuck off.

Always makes me laugh the “Rachel from accounts” slur when she has a bachelors degree in PPE (E for Economics) and a masters degree in Economics. She’s educationally the most qualified chancellor we’ve had in years and she actually has worked for the BoE and HBOS picking up valuable experience. She’s someone who actually has an in depth understanding of her brief which is rare for a politician.

I think her career in the private sector would appear much more impressive if she had started off at HBOS working in customer complaints, and ended up as an economist at the BoE, rather than vice versa.

But you can’t have it all I suppose.

Same degree as Liz Trss.

It sounds more like the "nearly poor" can FO too!!

Not sure where that came from, did you read the original posts? I agree, the rich, or anybody who doesn’t need it, should not be getting it.

I also think that the likes of Child Benefit should be binned as well, reforming the system and ensuring the safety net is fit for purpose.

Agree, but how do you define 'rich'?

Easy …… rich enough to not need any help or on an income below £25,000 a year.

Most people doing ok are professional couples pulling £45k each at least so that’s £90k a year

They’re rich but anyone over that are very rich

If you get wfa and don’t need it send it back

In any case it’s being reversed probably and rightly so ….. no one will forget this Scrooge act they pulled. Nobheads earning loads of tax payers cash

I get your point but the 'doing ok' level depends on very much where you live etc. I think end of life care (care homes etc) is almost as great a leveller as death itself - millionaire home owners in the same situation as penniless council tenants in most cases. In many ways this is (brutally) fair apart from the leeches that operate private care either rob the tax payer or rob the kids inheritance.
Pensions are another thing - we all know that instead of a pension fund, today's workers pay for today's pensions and we are nearing the point where that can't work. All governments know this but are too cowardly to admit it, and just hope the other lot are in power when the tipping point is reached.
