The Labour Government

So Sunak was "slowly turning things around" from decisions taken over 14 years and yet you think Labour should have it all turned round in less than 14 months?

What have the wives got to do with anything?
I clearly said " after the covid disaster" . No reference to 14 years or the" no money left" legacy of the previous Labour government.
Wives, nothing , the poster I was replying to brought them up.

For political expediency, nothing more, nothing less. She didn’t want to be the story and, by making the payment, she made it go away pretty quickly.

She did not legally owe any money. She’d paid the tax on it in India where it was earned. I always find the hypocrisy on this topic laughable - everyone complains like buggery when the likes Jeff Bezos don’t pay tax here (where earned) but pay tax somewhere else yet when someone like Mrs Sunak does pay her tax where earned they say she should be paying it here.
I always said tax avoidance not tax avasion. I never said she did something illegal. Just maybe imo morally wrong when your the PMs wife ? Especially when he was hiking up NI for everyone else when Chancellor ?

Too early?
The UK economy is in a self induced stagnation spiral created soley by the policies of Rachel Reeves.
The main growth organ of small businesses are in full-on retrenchment mode thanks to ENIPs killing all hope of much growth here.
Small businesses not expanding as they would go above the ENIPs threshold. Cuts in larger businesses everywhere to stay profitable. Eemployee headcount in Leisure industries is making some outlets unprofitable so small chain pubs and restaurants across the land are closing.
Mobile Non-Doms are abandoning the UK with a resulting decline in the tax take.
The flat-lining of economic growth, the drop in tax take from Non-Doms has caused debt to increase and thus creates a need for more tax to plug tge gap.
And no matter how you do it tax increases always hit someone and impact economic growth.
To make matters worse inflation is creeping back. Before long, interest rates will rise resulting in more retrenchment.
Yes too early. I judge a government on longer than a year in on 5 years.

Im not saying the last year has been great, I do have serious doubts on Reeves ability as a chancellor, they have a growth target of 2.5% of GDP per annum, but I think there first target should be to better the previous government, let's see if they can do that.

We have had dips in the economy under the previous government's have we not.

He's off his fucking rocker that one. I've literally no idea what he's going on about regarding Starmer's visit to Southport. Maybe he's pissed off that Starmer didn't lob any bricks at the police or something
Even on a football forum there are some nutters who think it's OK to politicise Southport and then even compare it with Starmer sitting in a meeting with Trump. Very bizarre comparisons. I used to respect Hertz "alternative" opinions-not any more. It's almost Faragesqe.

The pile-on seems to be because Starmer is trying not to offend Trump rather than take the "Hugh Grant" option.

Of course - just for a bit of perspective - there was the Johnson option.

And the Truss sycophancy

And Sunak's avoidance technique

I thought by now even you would realise quoting previous fucknuts is of no defence to the current one. It's only a sign you have nothing substantial to add.

BTW Hugh Grant would make a pretty decent PM in my view :-)

The hatred some people have for Starmer is off the scale irrational. He’s a fairly dull technocrat trying to do a difficult job with most of the media jumping on any perceived mistake whether it’s real or not. Some of them are that far gone they would rather have Trump or Truss running the country.

It takes time to improve the economy, policies, right or wrong ones, take time to implement and see the effects. I wasn't a fan of the Chancellors budget, but it's still too early to judge whether they will work to everyone's benefit imo.
I doubt they'll be given the time to see if it works.

Far right social media is being consumed way too easily.

I still think at the moment, even with Corbyn's party they may win the next election with a wafer thin majority. Whilst the opposition dog whistle and continue to divide the nation with hate filled ignorance.

Well they have another 4 years minimum. Which is time enough to demonstrate some effectiveness.

Most of the term will be guessing what that mango twat is doing to wreck our economy and dragging us into WW3 sadly.

Starmer should leave the **** to it and build our relationships with Europe and other countries to develop an economic model that **** cannot be allowed to fuck up.

The employment rights bill is the measure for me. It has been watered down a lot from its original premise but gives employees more power than we've had for 40 odd years. Increased job security should increase production.

Or the alternative view absence.

Or it could place too much onus on employers, espcially small ones, and reduce employment. There is a fine balance to be had when it comes to employment rights.

There is.

I've not read the bill in it's entirety. I'd hope they are some clauses for small businesses such as flexible working applications.

I've always favoured the cooperative business model but that's very rare in this maximum profit, minimum investment culture.

TBF foreign relationships is the one area Starmer is currently excelling in, and it’s no easy job so credit where credit is due.
