No, because they made a dishonest (or daft) promise in the first place. How are the Reform councils getting on with cutting Council Tax?

I agree we have to control immigration, and we need them, but as for shrinking the state to balance the books, the only winners from that sort of policy are the very wealthy.

Read up on how neoliberlism has benefitted the wealthy to the detriment of ordinary people, and how the increasing unabated imbalance of wealth will impoverish increasing numbers of people.

Farage and his cohorts are multi millonaire neoliberalists to the core. Reforms largest financial backer is as extreme as it comes with regard to free market captalism, and don't kid yourself for one second their motivation for reducing the size of the state isn't about reducing their tax bills.

Farage is the worst option you could choose if you want to see public services and life in general improve, and please bear in mind immigration is nothing but a Trojan horse used to suck the gullible into thinking he is the saviour of the working class.

He's an elitist ex public schoolboy multi millionaire City trader that earns money from advising foreigners how to migrate to the UK and keep their tax liabilities to a minimum.

Anyone who does not fully appreciate that Liz Truss was the worst PM in British history, and by a considerable distance, has no credibility whatsoever on the subject.
 
Can I suggest that people put Chippy on ignore or just stop responding to him because it's now getting like other threads where one person derails them completely. There is no point in engaging whether that's to reason, chastise or abuse. I've come to the conclusion that even if/when it becomes apparent that reform represent a huge risk to our national security and stability there are people who are so far down the rabbit hole now they will still vote for them. Imo Chippy is either one of those or is wumming. Either way it's an exercise in futility responding to him so perhaps not bothering is the best idea.

I don't agree with his political views at all.

I'm not in favour of turning threads into a closed shop for the like minded only though either.
Unless he's deliberately wumming I won't be putting him on ignore.
Defeats the point of a forum.

I do understand that point view and the risk of it becoming an echo chamber but for me it's just got to the point where it's not really discussion let alone debate anymore it's simply groundhog day. I have Chippy on ignore but so much of the content seems to be responding to him and from those responses it simply seems to be some sort of rinse and repeat. It's hard to know whether he's actually wumming and in the end I've just given up.

Chippy is warming up nicely for Wednesdays budget announcement- where is he can denounce every decision with his usual faux outrage and tell us how Reform would be much better for the economy.

Well he put me on ignore for challenging his inaccuracies and in some cases, just lies. If people can be bothered to rip him apart then for much of his nonsense then so be it. It's a bit of a sign of desperation that he's started counting his "likes" when he said: ( "I think they actually are just what is needed - as I posted (and received likes) about only a day or so ago.)"

If you want to 'solve' immigration, you need to look at the 90-odd per cent who come here on visas and ask why those visas are granted. I suspect the main reason is economic. The boat people are a relatively trivial minority, but inexplicably, all attention is focused on them.

As for shrinking the state, easier said than done. Of course, there is always waste that can be cut - even in the private sector! But I tell you this: if I had a painless way to remove waste that worked every time, I'd be a billionaire overnight, as the whole world would flock to me to learn my magic. It's about as easy as abolishing friction.

To make cuts is no doddle either. Look at the huge fuss made over removing WFA, a relatively trivial cut of between £200 and £300 to each household. Petty cash, really, and many in receipt did not need it. But you'd have thought the government had ordered the slaying of all firstborn children. Imagine that x 10, or maybe x 100!

You see, there are no easy options. I'd get shut of the entire royal family tomorrow, root and branch. That would save a few bob. But many people would not like that, would they?

What would a right-wing government go for? Simple, they'd destroy services, especially any that benefit the poor and relatively poor. And then when society fell apart, they'd blame brown people.

On that basis we should ignore all the various Labour stooges on the thread as well, given that their comments could equally be regarded as wumming.

Was Labour’s ‘fully costed manifesto’ daft or dishonest? I’d say both, actually.

After what this government has done, and is about to do in terms of fiscal policy, they won’t be in a position to call out other parties’ manifesto pledges for at least another 20 or 30 years.

I do however want to see a reversal on fiscal policy, given the current direction of travel (which will become ever more damaging) and the ineptitude of this government.

I think that Farage could well be right about an election being held in 2027, and if that were the case then I think Reform would be in power a lot sooner than many people realise.

Why just Labour stooges? What about the RW contingent who never go near the forums for their own choice of parties to offer positive and constructive ideas? Sad I know, but I've just looked through a few pages worth of the Conservative and Reform threads and there's not a single contribution, positive or otherwise, from any of those that spend endless hours sniping at Labour on here.

I'm not sure the use of the word "stooge" reflects any of us on this forum though:

A "stooge" is a person who is a lackey, a dupe, or a subordinate to someone more powerful or dominant. The term is disapproving and refers to someone who does unpleasant or secret work for another person, or who is manipulated into making that person look good.
