The Labour Government

One of the outlaws decided to have a heart attack a couple of years ago. It laid him up a few months whilst awaiting a procedure. Luckily for him he got away with having a stent fitted. Unluckily, he lost his job. In this time he only received statutory sick pay. He eventually found another job. Before he could get back on his feet, he managed to slip and break his ankle, no pun intended. I'm not sure if he received any sick pay, but all the while, he was getting deeper in debt. He has now returned to work. This has taken its toll on his mental health. So much so he has had to use a debt management agency.
All on top of a long term health condition which I've been told, he has tumours on his spine that periodically burst and leave him in agony. So, things are not so rosy in the benefit garden. Apparently he's tried every avenue but can't claim a penny.
There in lies the issue with the whole benefits system. It should be a safety net, it should support people like you mentioned, but instead it seems to support in many cases those who can fill in paperwork the right way and put on a good act when being assessed.

I do find it wrong that things like being obese is classified as something that warrants a pip claim which is a self inflicted condition caused by greed. The fact that it causes back pain and breathing issues should be discounted.

Prosecute on what grounds? Lawyers, accountants et al work the system on behalf of their clients. That’s their job.

I’d argue falsifying asylum claims isn’t lawful and enough to warrant getting you struck off as well as the claim being denied.

That’s not working the system mate, it’s fraudulent activity.

It’s all a matter of opinion. Personally I’ll never forgive Blair’s Iraq intervention or his PFI debt ladened legacy. Brown, well what can you say, decent fellow but not a statesman. My faith in politicians is shot. I don’t think they are up to the job on these fast changing times. They’ve most likely been shaded from real life by some kind of privilege, be it money or nepotism. I know people will say this is a negative perspective but it’s my experience.
Your sort of bullshit “they are all the same” rhetoric, in the face of clear evidence that the likes of Truss and Johnson were outliers and unfit to hold any sort of high office, is what leads to the mental situation that they have in America where a con man dupes enough people to believe that he is the only person who can clean it up, when he actually embodies all the characteristics the complain about, far more than anyone else.

Yes, we can all complain about some terrible decisions made by politicians of all parties and they have a responsibility to do better at times.

But we also have a responsibility as a public to not be as stupid and reductive to parrot this “they are all the same”, “they are all bastards out for themselves” bullshit. It’s the opinion of an idiot, copied and parroted by other idiots and in the long term is equally, if not more so, responsible for the decline of a country and its prospects as actions of politicians (see the US). It only results in people who are infinitely worse than before gaining power. Funnily enough, they always use the very same argument to convince people to vote for them.

Entirely depends on how you present it. A lawyer will outline your options and grounds for a successful appeal, one of which is being gay. You can highlight the advantages of certain appeal options, and once an option is chosen they then build a case for their client. If a client tells his lawyer that yes, he or she is gay the lawyer can present that case.

A lawyer is there to represents your interests, be it a tribunal, civil or criminal matter. If you insist you are not guilty then the lawyer, irrespective of their personal feelings, should proceed accordingly. The lawyers are not working for the State, they are working for Joe Public, or in this case Asif or whoever.

It comes down to how much you value legal protections against the might of the State. Let’s hear it for the little guy! :)

Sorry, not having it.

Well let’s all wait and see what a cock up is made by this lot. I do tend to look at the political scene in a simplistic way, because throughout my lifetime it has been politicians who have cocked it up. I’m with the workers of this country who have had a bad deal as long as I’ve lived. I now fear for the young people having to grow up in this country.
