The Maine Place

Never been back. Never Will.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as there is a Maine Road, then there is a football stadium stood proudly upon it.

Going back to stare at some new local authority housing estate where I expected to see the place of my childhood dreams would send me to an early grave a very unhappy man!

ive been back and it was a soul destroying experience. went with blue 2112 day after we won the league. took a few pics and i now know why we have a BM poster called Santiago st.....never ever noticed this street name during maine rd days, lol

The pint in the Albert brought back happier memories, that is until big Paul bevan and the local riff raff came in and lowered the tone...

sort of glad i made the effort, but wont be hurrying back thats for sure...will be back in the Albert if we win the league tho!

Went back for the first time a few months ago.

If you've not been back yet, don't do it. It was beyond depressing. It makes me feel miserable just thinking about it.

They can call the streets whatever they want. They can paint the place whatever colour they want. They can put a 50 foot statue of Bell, Lee, and Summerbee there if they want - I'll never set foot (or car tyre) near Maine Road again.

Heartbreaking.

Good thread on the same subject in the history forum. I still miss Maine Road. Hope to teach my future child about it one day.

This is great advice. I wish it had been posted a fortnight ago and I might not have gone. It really is beyond depressing.
